Default Bread and butter site and personal

Hi all, since you're all sharing here are my two golden eggs. One I recently overhauled and use primarily for business - www.seo-bod.co.uk I'm in the process of optimising this though I think the onpage work is complete, would appreciate feedback?

My personal portfolio is - www.mattraynes.co.uk This is very much an ongoing project and when more times becomes available I'll be hooking up all the broken internal links and dedicating more to it. Obviously, I'm optimising this for all things SEO and web design related.

All thoughts greatly appreciated...

Are you asking for feedback on design or SEO? In both cases, you will probably know more than a lot people here based on your portfolio.
Anyway, On seo-bod, on the home page you used h1 tag three times. These normally confuse search engines as they don't know exactly what this page is about. Best practice is to use it once on a page and that generally is the keyword you aim for. Also your keyword is too broad and competition is huge.

Hi,

Fourth-monkey, I'm after feedback with regards to both design and SEO.

You're absolutley right about the h1 tag (amended). The project is long term for seo-bod, number one on bing for 'search engine optimisation professionals', just got to get it moving in the right direction on Google now....

And thanks onlinetileshop, I agree, they're both kinda serving the same purpose for me at the moment...

I think Bing cares on-page optimisation much more than Google does. It is relatively easy to be ranked in Bing with just extreme on-page SEO. But for Google, you need much more than that which involve lots of hard work.

Well with you proper SEO bods in the thread I wouldn't dare make any SEO comments

But if I can give you some first impression website feedback on seo-bod.co.uk, to me I'm afraid it looks like one of those Indian SEO firms that harrass you on the phone, offering guaranteed page 1 with obscure keywords

I think its maybe the white background, and lack of any framing for the site, or things like the menu buttons and header. I think it looks more like a wp blog than a business site, which would put me off.

Contact wise is a mobile phone, can you not use a landline? Assume you have a business line? Also the mobile number is quite grainy on my laptop, not sure if its intentional, but looks like a low quality image.

Under the mobile you have:

Follow me -

Recommend me -

Facebook me!

This looks like it was just plonked on as an after thought. Theres no consistent spacing, on Chrome there is a gap between "facebook me and the FB image, plus the image is slightly offset to the right.

Final point, don't really understand your logo. Love the URL and you are obviously promoting "SEO Bod" but the logo seems to be "Search Engine Optimisation Professionals" an SEO image with arrows, then "reach the summit". Assume one of these is a tag line?

I think the SEO Bod with the robot looks great, shame you don't have that as a logo.

Sorry Matt, prob not the answer you wanted, but hope its constructive.

As with any feedback though, it's all reliant on your current conversions, so if this site is performing well and converting, then leave it be

Thanks for the constructive feedback sjr. You're absolutely right and I think it's the kinda motivation I need. It is an ongoing project - SEO bod - and I was surprised to find the URL available.

The logo shall be changing and I'll be re-addressing the layout, my thinking behind this was to see if it would widen the scope for a social media push for SEO-bod and myself at the same time.

It's working slowly though business commitments are edging out personal projects, I have a landline though work inhouse at present so prefer the mobile contact for this project.

When it starts hitting front page for Google then it may become more of a larger project for myself.

Absolutely agree fourthmonkey, wish clients would ask for first page ranking for bing, life would be nice.

Some images are used when it would be better to use text for example your mobile number is an image, not even with an alt attribute?
