Default Mobile Web Site

Ok, so maybe not ground breaking, but we finally got round to sorting out a mobile version of our UK Directory.

Apparently this mobile malarky is catching on and people actually search for stuff on their mobile phones, I can barely find my address book!

The URL is the same, mylocalservices.co.uk and it will auto forward to the mobile site or normal site depending on your device.

Looks pretty good on an iphone, not too bad on an older style mobile, but be interested to know how it looks on a blackberry or android device.

Have set up the analytics, and I can't believe how many people are searching the mobile site already, so looks like we missed a trick there Better late than never!

Next will be iphone and android apps! Get me

Gonna have to take the app route sooner or later, I have all the dev stuff and set up as a Apple Dev, but a bit beyond me yet, though I can do very simple apps, that work as a website kinda feel, click throughs etc

Never got any feedback for this, but the new mobile site is performing well, and would highly recommend anyone to follow suit if your main site is hard to view on a mobile device.

Just updated my mobile site as it goes, I can target certain OS' such as Android, iOS, Blackberry etc, so if a phone goes through it auto directs to a certain file, page site etc, but have them all set to the same thing, most of the ones I have ran it in can see it fine, but optimised for iPhones.

Haven't dropped any analytics in it, maybe I should!

Yup, pretty much done the same, optimised for iPhone, but seems to look ok on everything else that I've tested.

Deffo put on some analytic's, may surprise you. Now we can separate our mobile and normal site visitors, we can see 7% of our traffic are on mobile devices.

What will be interesting is how this picture changes over the coming years.

My versions are listing iPad as mobile, you getting the same? (I mean I know tablets are obviously mobile, but would have thought with stats and browsing they come under normal/static as they have full web usage)

Nope, our site shows as a full webpage on iPads and tablets, and mobile on smartphones etc. But, interestingly some google sites struggle on the iPad, eg my adwords campaign defaults to the mobile version which is annoying. Seen a few other sites default to mobile sites on the iPad as well. Yup just looked at kipfx and does default to mobile on the iPad. Maybe a wordpress issue?
