So what do you think? I did pay quite a bit for the domain name last year I think somewhere near the £500 mark or more, but seemed worth investing in such a competive London plumbing market and I spent around £2k on having the site done. Me only issue with it is, it does not generate anywhere near as much traffic as my other site which compared to this looks pretty much naff...Anyway tell me what you think and please be frank

Hi Barney, your old site has far more backlinks which means it is ranking higher in Google. What you need to do is to redirect your old site to your new site, this will pass on the ranking to your new site.

Where is your base? Dagenham or Drury Lane? No sign of it on the londonplumber website? I would suggest you put an address in as it gives people more confidence in your business. As long as you would do work on the other side of London (to Dagenham) e.g. Epsom, Staines, Chertsey etc... then fine, but would you travel over there to give quotes without knowing you'll get the work? Again if you have plumbers on that side of London I guess it's feasible? Secondly, more often than not people will put a more local search term in rather than london plumber. If I lived in Dagenham I would not put "london plumber" it'd be "dagenham plumber". Likewise, if I lived in central london I would search for the relevant local area I live in e.g. "lambeth plumber", "clerkenwell plumber" or "marylbone plumber" etc. So having the domain name londonplumbers.co.uk does not necessarily add value. Thirdly, your original batesheating website seems to be up and down like a yo-yo at the moment and if you're not going to redirect it you may want to look at your hosting - as you don't want to lose potential customers. ![]() Finally, you seem to be into far more than plumbing...
Or perhaps a dedicated site to each specific trade?? Just options for you Barney, as you'll know how much work you do in these various areas.... |

Without doubt the batesheating one, probably because it's been around quite a while 5 years or more I think whereas the other one has only been going for a year. I also don't do any ppc advertising nor any paid for advertising. To be honest I'm pretty much bored with the bh wesite and was toying with the idea of pulling it, having a re-design or something, but it does generate quite a few calls plus email enquiries...so I don't know... Only has to go another 5 years and I'll be hanging up my spanners.....

Are you promoting the site internally, such as articles etc, or has it just sat there for a year stagnant? Cheeky plug, but look at this, this is Marks website, top of Google page one (tried saying it was thanks to me earlier on here, but I think its all him!) Swimming Pools Website | Kip FX Design
I am just redoing the website as we speak (mine) so don't expect the rest of it to work. But you have to get involved with your website, then you annihilate it, the peoples sites that don't work are those that look on and stare, scratching their heads lol! Hope it helps you |

I pay someone to write a couple of articles once a month, which more often than not ends up getting syndicated elsewhere. But apart from that not a lot is happening to either sites... I tend to run a mile now when it comes to SEO specialists have no faith in the industry at all...
