Default New website problem

I had a trouble about company website . www.china-stone.biz , This is website we asked a web design company to make 4 months ago .

We choosed it because the website desgn plan they wrote is good . When they told us they had finished website, I found they didn't make according to plan , and many things is not good as we expected .So I asked them to revise , they said ok . but more than one months passed ,they made nothing for website , no further answer any longer .

What should I do ? find a new company to finish ? Or ask then to finish website according contract ? What do you think of my website ? Any suggestion will be much appreciated .

Thanks,
Helen

Helen, contact them and ask them when (by what date) they will resolve. Any decent company should want a satisfied client!

What is it specifically you want them to do?

Hi Helen

Hopefully you've agreed on staged payments, and not paid in advance. If you have an agreement, then they need to honour it, or be given a chance to rectify, otherwise don't pay them any more.

For info, can't access your site at the moment, looks like it's down

Helen, your website was up when I looked but it does not look good to me.

Problems noted during a very quick visit:-

- text and shaded areas suddenly stop, white space appearing where you'd expect the rest of the material to be

- site structure and navigation very confusing (content appears unrelated to menu and lots of text and images repeated, for no apparent reason)

- the standard of English needs to be improved.

I agree with mrb and sjr4x4 about the need to hold the design company to their agreement.

Good luck!

The most important thing I asked them to do is revised some pictures links and names in homepage .Then finish all according to request for website designs we agreeed with each other.

Thanks . I agree with you .

If they can't do as agreement, I have to give up . And look for a new way to continue making the new website better .

Well it depends how much is at stake? You could take it further but I suspect with the sums and associated hassle it may not be worth it?

Feel free to PM me if you want to discuss any of it?

Good luck!

Helen, it's sad you're facing such a major problem on your site. I'm assuming the 40% payment amounts to quite a lot of money and you've little chance of getting it back?

I realise the following ideas may not work in China but thought it might be helpful to explain how I'd go about getting my money back in a similar situation.

In the UK, some companies belong to trade associations which offer an impartial complaints resolution service on behalf of their members. You can complain to the trade association. If your complaint is upheld, a strong trade association may get the service not delivered to you done to acceptable standards for no charge by another of its member companies. Alternatively, it may arrange for you to receive financial compensation.

Sometimes just threatening you will complain to the trade association is enough to make your supplier behave better!

The other resource we have is to say we'll complain to the local press. No company wants a bad reputation.

There is also a small claims court. The cost of taking a claim to this court has gone up and its powers are limited - however the only time I tried it (I was mis-sold a computer by someone else who didn't know anything about computers either!), I got my money back.

Good luck!

Did you not see the website during progress? ie Did they not send you links to view what it looked like at every stage from initial mock designs and from thereon and ask for feedback for any changes?

Sounds like they just went away with an idea of what they believed was what you wanted, created it, then presented it to you. A silly way to carry on. Always make sure you can view the progress of a website in its design phase and then in its full working state before any sign-offs.
