At least in the UK we use tractors

Proper excited!
So 6 months in, how's this project panning out? Being bars and clubs, this seems an obvious candidate for some serious SMM.

Did anything come from Walkabout, or are they still watching?

Be interested to see if you managed to blend on and offline promotion after the initial launch excitement wears off, as I guess this is one of the biggest challenges for bar and club promotion.

Nah, it is just earning me a slight adsense income, these sites are just old news now, the internet is changing, my foray into directory style sites is over.

I just don't think they work, have yet to see any real proof, they keep dropping. Seldom is there directories on the front page of Google now, they have been hammered so much over the years that search engines are just seeing them as old hat. imho

shame, yeah saw you let quid a biz die, must admit was always sceptical on that one.

Trust me, professional directories are here to stay. The recent Panda updates sifted through the script kiddie chaff, but we continue to grow. The trick is to embrace change and implement new ideas.

Personally I think SMM and SEO will morph into a new standard terminology in the near future, as they are so interlinked, especially if +1 takes off for Google.

Not so sure, we are seeing less and less directories dominating the Google rankings like we once did, and seeing dates, times and other social media stamps appearing at the start of every search result, you search for something, and google gives you its latest news, dated and timed. The fresher, the better.

Disagree. Its down to how marketing channels adapt.

Had an interesting meeting with our Google account manager today. We were analyzing post Panda, and looking at the effects and any new strategies.

The Panda updates have been very interesting and there has been a lot of fall out, but there have been plenty of winners as well. We have seen a 20% growth in traffic since April.

But some interesting stuff that came out was make sure you get those +1 buttons deployed, as these will become more important over the next 18 months, and for any adsense sites, keep it to 4 ad units per page. Any more will reduce quality depending on content.

I think Google could be onto a winner, and its interesting watching the volume of plus 1's grow. (you can check this now in WMT). What will be interesting will be the tipping point from links to +1's as the primary signal. At this point, you will simply have SEM, search engine marketing, which will encompass SEO and SMM.

So from a mom and pop site, to a million page site, make sure you have all the bases covered.
