Default I would like a honest open review

Hey guys, I know I can trust you to offer a open honest review on my website, with regards to content, design, ease of use and information given.

I am currently working on ranking the site on the internet, so I am happy to listen to advise regarding this also and if not already working on, will add to my list to get done.

Anyway, the floor is open and your welcome to review, if you hate or something is not right say so, if you like then please say so also.

CENTURION FPS

Thanks in advance, fingers crossed

Flash content won't help your rankings at all FPS.

That should be your first change, and a much needed one. I would involve more content (once you have removed flash) such as subpages/categories, ie pages on Shop Fire Safety, Factory Fire Safety etc (things certain businesses will search for) If a search engine is looking for content rich websites, then 5-6 pages is just not enough.

Layout is easy to follow, content is good, easy to read.

Good rule to follow:

Homepage:

Headline - Strapline

Body Copy One
  • Services 1
  • Services 2
  • Services 3
  • Services 4
  • Services 5
  • Services 6

Body Copy Two
1-2 Paragraphs on why a customer should carry on through the website, tell them why they should, tell them what you do, and how to take the next step.

Body Copy Three
  • Reason to Choose FPS 1
  • Reason to Choose FPS 2
  • Reason to Choose FPS 3
  • Reason to Choose FPS 4
  • Reason to Choose FPS 5
  • Reason to Choose FPS 6

Body Copy Three
  • Accreditations
  • Logos
  • Associations

Looks dated to me - not offensive but not grabbing me either.

One thing though I do not link is the link referral.com - it looks like a link farm type of affair which can harm your search engine chances.

I dont know if this makes life better for my site but I just purchased

ukfirealarmcompany.co.uk

and will point this to my website, is this a good idea.. ??

I assume that answer is irrelevant as I have done it haha

But this would lead me to my next questions, now I have this domain, what would you do with the name.

You have all given me great advise so far and I am looking or actioning what you have suggested.. Thanks

Your sites brand new, registered 23 Oct, yet the content on your homepage seems to be on other sites?

You can check yourself here:
Copyscape search results for: http://centurion-fps.co.uk

Duplicate content won't help you SEO wise, and who is copying who?

I agree with previous comments, that the site looks dated. Think shop window. Is a new user going to read that text, or will they wonder off and be wowed with the huge 15% off fire extinguishers promotion your competitor is showing off on their home page?

Could you not offer products that I can see and buy direct from your website? On the fire extinguisher tab, the tag line says:
"We offer product, install and service" That's poor English, but does give the impression I can buy an extinguisher off you, yet I can't find any on your site?

With just milliseconds to grab someones attention, wheres the obvious call to action? The click here to break glass could maybe work, but its not even a link, just a wasted sales message space

It says you're a National Company, in that case where are your locations? As a visitor, I may be interested to see if you have a branch near me? Or are you part of a bigger organisation or franchise? Maybe you should make this clearer?

Depends on how precious you are about the website name. The URL is SEO gold dust. If you sell widgets, and you have widgets.co.uk, you have just made your online marketing life a lot easier. If you sell widgets and you call yourself geezer.co.uk then you've got a harder job.

If it was me, as you have a new site, I'd build it on the ukfirealarm URL, as thats relevant to your business, or get a URL which better describes yourself.

This is just my opinion, and plenty of opposing schools of thought on this one, but most busineses starting online are selling a product or service. 99% of visitors will be searching for that product, and not your name. A great big boy example is B&Q. Look at their URL, DIY.com

So you can still call and brand yourself as whatever you want, but the URL is a critical component of a new online business, and not one you will really want to change once you start to get established, so worth giving it some real thought.

Just redirecting other URL's won't really achieve much if your not marketing them, and if you are, then you should be marketing your main URL.

All constructive, hope its of use

I m doing my best to adjust the site to suit the suggestion, with tweeks here and there. My main problem is I assume from the comments is the Java based platform its on, now I understand the feelings towards this kind of site. But I was under the impression Webeden had taken leaps forward in helping these kind of sites ranking well in the search engines thats why I choose to use them. If a real change over from this platform is required to make a massive difference, then I m stuck on time and experience to produce the kind of website that I would be proud of, so I assume this leads me to someone else to do it (which costs money). Is there anyone out there who is willing to do a deal on maybe a month by month payment or some credit terms as being a new business well money is counted in and out and every penny counts. So if not then I have to make a best out of my current site, which I m taking on board you comments and changing as we speak.

Thanks in advance
