Being nice and being honest is two different things - which do you want to hear?

Default nice or honest

well i have to say honest, being nice won't get me any traffic or help improve sales..! I know this may be a painful experience given the hours I have invested in building the site but I do need to know if i can change things for the better!

Feels outdated, I am a bit more critical than most though, but like you said, polite will not get you the correct traffic or enquiries.

The logo is unprofessional.
Comic Sans is a terrible font to use, stick with arial, verdana etc. There is a reason major companies do not use fonts like comic sans.
It feels a bit childish, all big buttons and no finesse.
Centralised text again looks unprofessional.
Email is a Yahoo one, says one man band (nothing wrong with being one, but not the image it portrays.)
URL keywords need improving to match page content.
Title tags not there at all.

Drawing board time buddy!

Neither for me, im afraid. The problem is though that these are templates where you are retsricted by limitations of the template or your own skill and there is only so much you can do to make them better but I fear that even what you can change isn't going to bring you the results you would like.

What I would ask you is "how much would you like to sell from your website each month" or "how many enquiries would you want from your website" (pending if its a brochure site or an ecommerce one). Then work from there. Its not just design that brings in sales, and it not just being google no. 1 either. You need to be found for the right kreywords in a decent volume which convert to enquiries or sales once they click through, because your site has the right products at the right price displayed in a way that is easy to view/navigate/order/contact and gives a feeling of trust through the design and content. If lacks some or a lot of these things, they simply won't convert even if you are at No. 1 for a great keyword. You could have a great website, all of the above with the wrong pricing and still not convert. There are so many factors to consider, and what your aim to achieve as your goal for monthly sales, is the extent of investment into your website.

Thanks to indizine and Kip FX design. Coments noted and where possible will be changed ie font and logo etc. I am however limited in the changes that can be made (templates) but I will endevour to make the changes. In terms of traffic, the low cost of the product and limited margin (because they the cheapest cartridges on the net) restrict my ability to pay SEO's to stimulate growth etc. However in regard to how much traffic I need, more hits should equal more convertions which in turn will allow me to pay for better web design and online marketting etc. How many do I have to sell? Last count my shop holds approx 20,000 Epson Compatibles in addition to our HP, Dell, Brother, Canon etc etc. This is where I get frustrated, I can buy and manufacture cartridges as cheap if not cheaper than anyone else on the web (bold claim but very true). On this basis I should be able to beat anyone on price if I can get the product in to the correct arena..will consider back to the drawing board..

Your manufacturing costs may be low but these are not the only necessary costs. You need to be able to market it to your customers. If marketing it costs money, that money has to be factored in to the price that you charge for your product.

I would suggest that when your competitors' prices are a little bit higher than yours, it means that their manufacturing costs are about the same but their pricing strategy includes the cost of effective marketing.

Well, just because I can... I like the original website better. Feels more like a nice company that I would call.

As for the new website... a little boxy for my liking... although I have said that for someone else in the last couple of weeks, so perhaps it's a new trend.

Good luck with it though

Many thanks for the comments, time is limited for me now becuase I am back at work (day job) so the design of the new site/sites will be slow. I have however noted the advice given. Help and support will always be appreciated.
Many thanks guys
