![]() I'm currently trying to switch it from a 1&1 site builder to weebly but having DNS problems. Might try and go for a wordpress site this time.. Basically, there's no point in me making design changes until i'm on a new platform. It's about 5 years since I've done anything to that site (first site I ever built..) If anyone has optimised a site for Jazz, music or similar I would be interested in SEO notes on what would work well. |

Okay, I will leave design alone for the moment, with regard to SEO... there are plenty of things you can do to improve your website listing, use the backlink checkers for competetors sites and keyword toold. However, when you design the website, part of that design is the content... and the content itself should be relevant to the design.
I am afraid what I am trying to say is, it all needs to be addressed at the same time. There is no point in making a pretty box for a present, but putting nothing inside it. Likewise, if you have a fabulous present you should wrap it up in a fancy box. |

I'm not talking about the basics of SEO, more which keywords in my sector convert best, the look and feel that consumers respond best to (conversion optimisation tests here, not assumptions), whether I should start a blog to generate content or what would be the best content to provide users. For instance I could write as a critic of venues/gigs I go to or play at. I could write about artists themselves, or in a different direction point more towards transcription and the how-to of jazz. I guess I'm more thinking aloud (on a forum) here |

I rem a couple of years ago researching possible bands to play at our wedding. What struck me was that all the sites were terrible.
In the end, it was personal recommendation, and then we went to see them play. Their website was also crap, so from an online marketing perspective, our hunt failed, and we relied on age old recommendation. If your shop window is rubbish, what does it say about your service or professionalism? If it's a hobby, I can understand why a lot of performers have home made amateur unloved sites, but if its a profitable sideline or business, then I find it baffling. I agree with Alison, no point in targeting keywords and SEO, if your landing page isn't going to target a conversion. Fix the shop window, then get people to walk past it

Interesting...I've probably played around 100 or so gigs professionally so I'm sure I could get some client testimonials.
One of my bands has a website Twin & Tonic; A measure of Jazz, a shot of swing, a twist of cabaret which is muuuch nicer. But too graphics intense for my tastes. Jazz is never profitable. It's beer money at best ![]()

As far as I am aware, this forum is the perfect place to think aloud
![]() As for blogs, write something you are interested and passionate in, as this will come through in the text too. However, this must also be keyword rich. Try using this tool |

![]() Can't for the life of me find the band we used, but they were jazz meets pop, and put on a great show with guys standing on peoples tables playing the sax etc. All great fun, and they seemed to be doing ok. Just their site didn't do them justice. These days, most people can set up a wordpress site, or have one built for little cost, so theres no excuse, imho And a bucket load of testimonials, your laughing.Unless the performer market is still mainly powered by verbal recommendations? Which in our case is why we booked them, so maybe I've just gone full circle and the webs not the be and end all
