Hello Kiera

I would love to do an honest review but I feel like I would upset you, after the 'bad' reviews you got before x[ I think you're background needs to go, or get changed, it's not very nice, the colour scheme could be better I think.

Here, I hope this helps you... Fairy Kates We made this site, it's a cupcake site too, the only problem we had was the logo, as she is 'fairy kate' she wanted a tinkerbell or something along them lines, all that is copyrighted though and buying the image rights to such things is way beyond ourselves.

goodluck in the future.

Do note: It's not finished. So there's a distinct lack of content.

1000 times better than the old one

Most obvious thing is the lack of basic SEO.

Looks like you are using wordpress, so I'd recommend the "all in one SEO" plugin.

Look at the page titles and give these some attention, as these is SEO gold dust and easily fixed.

Maybe put a page break n where the welcome box is, as that's curved, and your pictures square, but thats just cosmetic.

Not a fan of the pink dot wall paper, think it would look better in a single colour, like white or a shade of, but thats just my personal taste.

I'd get some testimonials up there as well.

Main thing though, it's obvious what you do, and some great images to back it up.

I totally understand about it being girly

I know what you're getting at, I wern't suggesting the design, more like the pink and clean, fresh look you know.

I think steve does reviews better.

The website is OK.

Load times seem slow, due to the number of images..

Are you based in London, I'm considering placing an order!

Hi Kiera

we've had more than our fair share of terrible web site reviews too and we're still working on it....

I love the images on your web site especially the big ones, I also like the menu and the text above the menu.

The pink dot wall paper puts me off, I don't think it goes well with the rest of the site.

But the worst thing for me is the font used for the text for everything below the big image. On my laptop it just doesn't look good and some of the text overlaps other text on most pages. Also there seems to be a different font used above some of the different small images. The last part of the text that looks like it should have a pink background spills out onto the pink dot wall paper.

I'd suggest viewing your web pages at different screen resolutions so you can see what I'm seeing.

I hope that helps.

Tom

your right that its about personal taste so I think you should get your clients to review that side of the site for you.

I do remember your old site being up for review and this is much better, cant say I totally agree with everything, but if it was up to me you would have naked girls all over the page so... this is why I suggest get your clients to give you a couple of reviews.

The load time is a bit slow, you can improve this by re-saving the images in a lesser format. they dont need to be top quality png files for the web.

as mentioned earlier get the seo plugin, "home" is not a page title! and no-one will find you this way!

put your location and phone number on the front page, or every page, put it twice, three times if you can! you want people calling that number! - really just once will do, but put it nice and clear, if anything it can be the most reassuring thing to customers that you have a number they can call if they get stuck.

I want to hug you for making the facebook link open in a new window!

I much prefer the background on the sub pages to the front page! I know its your choice but if you are going to keep it how about fading it a bit? or something along those lines? its just so bold!

sorry for giving such a personal review of the site but the technical aspects of it are worth doing. (picture size, seo, phone number and location etc)

Thanks for your comments they are very helpful.

The front page colours are just for valentines, all pages are normally the same as the subs. I will put my contact details on the pages as i agree that people can be lazy and want it all easily at hand.

I am still struggling with the SEO side, mainly as i don't understand all the terminology and if i do i don't know how to actually do it. My hubbie is more able but getting his time is quite difficult at the mo but it is on my list..

I have done a review form for those that have attended my courses and i got people who i knew would be honest to comment and so far all views on this version have been positive. This site is the only negatives i have had. I think most "normal " people don't see the technical issues that have been posted and some parts are personal so i cannot please all.
I am in the process of changing the gallery page to a static page with titles which i feel will be better..
Need Steve to turn up at my house to fix it all the seo issues for the payment of cupcakes!!!

I am currently trialing google ad words but although lots of clicks no cash my way yet..

Now there's a thought!!

If you do nothing else, please sort out, or get your hubby to sort out your page titles, it really is a 5 minute job and it's really worthwhile. Google wants to know what all your pages are about, "home" doesn't really do it for them

Tread carefully with the adwords, it can be an expensive learning curve. Be selective with keywords. For example, you are actually competing against us for "Google Search - Cupcake courses lincolnshire"

You are listed with us, and we have your listing at the top of page 1 (and number 2), but your adword shows in the sponsor link, so people may click on that instead and cost you money. Now this strategy is fine in larger campaigns, but not on a limited budget.

Plus, I would put money on it that if you updated your page titles, your own site would go in at the top, as this is a pretty easy phrase to optimise, meaning you would have the top spots to yourself in the organic results.

Obviously you need to research what actual keyword or phrase your customers are typing in, and generates conversions, and make that your longterm goal, but its not a bad start
