Okdokey, here goes....

You're between a rock and a hard place, being a charity, you won't want to spend money on web development, but with out a professional look, you will lose potential donations to other causes.

Your site has a home built look to it. If the Army of Angels logo in your post below is your logo, then why isn't part of your header?

You need to start developing a brand association, so any publicity you generate, anyone arriving on your site knows straight away who you are.

Compare your site to Help for Heroes

Ok they have had a massive publicity campaign and are now a huge charity, but this is what you should be aiming for. Theres no reason why you couldn't have a similar looking website using something like wordpress or Joomla, which would keep your costs right down, and also make it easier to edit and update, freeing up your time to for marketing and fundraising.

I can see you have been given some webspace and what looks like a wsiwyg site, but I would be cheeky, why not approach webdesigners and ask them to set you up a wordpress site in return for them having a nice logo and weblink on your home page. All they need to do is rustle up a professional looking template, and spruce up your logo, you already have the content. 20 firms may tell you to get lost, but the 21st phonecall could be a winner.

If your serious, and you plan to really grow this, the only way that will happen is by publicity, and that's what every business in the land craves, so sell that to a web designer. You never know, someone here might take the bait...
