Default Recycling website, SEO and content advice please.

Hey, I recently took over the web site responsibilites for WEEE Recycle Electronics Ltd and so far have made quite a few changes including:
  • Removing broken links.
  • Adding 'Home Recycling' and 'Business Recycling' to top of page to make more prominent.
  • Thinning down the amount of services to avoid duplicate services.
  • Changed a large amount of content to make it more informative to potential users.
  • Facebook and Twitter integration.

If you guys can suggest any changes or addtions to the website I would be happy to listen and get an outsiders perspective.

Cheers

Oh one problem I'm aware of I thought I would make you guys aware of before I receive feedback on it, if you have the website displayed in a window that is smaller than the page width then an large white column appears on the right and will overwrite the twitter feed etc.

I have raised this with the web design company (I don't have full permissions yet so can't change CSS and the likes) and they said they would look into it but so far it's still there.

Quick gander, design wise nice looking site, big obvious call to actions Love the weeee collect etc, very good.

Not sure of the value of the Google Friends connect, just seems like a bit of self promo on a commercial site, but thats just me.

Maybe a bit of keyword stuffing in the meta tags, but nothing major.

Surprised the site has got a better online presence as its been registered for 12 months, ie no PR, google links, so maybe just needs some marketing which I guess is why your here

Thanks for your advice, I know what you mean about google friends I'm sure only people to use are the company who set up the site ><.

The keyword stuffing do you mean home page or all pages, I know it's a problem and had greatly reduced keywords on most article pages but I'm yet to be given the permissions to ditch the home page stuffing. The homepage description is a bit lacking as well I think.

Hopefully the online presence will improve, was averaging 0 people a week and in a couple of weeks we are up to a steady flow of 10+unique a day. Still not what we want but getting there =].

Hah tell me about it, it had no home page text until I added the small descriptions to each section. I was thinking of adding a small news section for some more text on the home page but as the site doesn't change much it would seem a bit out of place.

Hopefully I can think up some way to get it in there, and get those pesky key words changed on the home page

Sorry to sound harsh but I would suggest you sack the company that claim on your website they are doing your SEO work!

They have not even given your homepage a title tag - that's like getting my car serviced and they give it back to me having not put any wheels back on!

I'm doing the Seo at min but yes I agree, all home page information (title, keywords, description) are out of the permissions they set for me. It's a real pain as it's the most important page and I can't do edits I need until they give me the permissions =[ Same goes for the buggy CSS side column.

Tell them to whistle buddy, it is a Joomla website, Open Source coding, they have no reason (legally or morally) to keep you from full admin, they have not designed this with bespoke coding that they need to protect.

If your website cannot be found it may aswell not exist, a good SEO'd site is on Oxford Street, a bad one is in a Cave in the Shetlands somewhere, you HAVE to have access to this very important parts.

Smile some advice for your web

Hello, Wrel,

I like the color of your website. At my opinion, I thik the blank area in your web is a little more , for example , in home of your website, Maybe it will be better , if the blank area near "Business recycling " " Household recycling " could be small " .
In the right of your web home , Maybe you can try change "twitter "and "facebook " in other color and font for words , to attract visitors't notice
Just some advices

Best regards
Helen
