Talking Another redesign

Hi everyone - I've taken on board all your comments from last time and redesigned my website. If you get a minute, please take a look and tell me what you think: www.martinanewtonart.co.uk

Cheers!

Oh dear, the colours are still not my cup of tea.

Also,
  • The wording needs to move up a bit in your banner - as it doesn't quite look right.
  • I would not have the words Marathon for Hounds for Heroes as an image as the quality looks poor. You could have the same effect in text and then have the same image below all still pointing to the same link.
On the positive side, I like the way you've done the 2 pictures of the dogs. Very effective

It's only my opinion, so maybe others will disagree.

I quite like the colours, but I have to agree with the other points mrb has made.

I like the Gallery, and I think the Works In Progress section is a really good way of having a nice content-rich blog-by-any-other-name on the site.

Minor - on the Customer Comments, is there a reason that the word "graphite" isn't in italics?

On the Contact page, the address it says is "....newtonart.CO.UK" but the address it points to is "...newtonart.COM", is this intentional? Also, the letters "UK" are for some reason not part of the link.

If you are going to have images containing lots of text (like the Hounds For Heroes stuff) then it would be polite to make that text available 'within' the image as description or alt text. Not least because that makes it more usable for people using screen readers and I'd imagine that, as a group of people who often work with service dogs, they're part of your target market. I'm sure someone at HfH would be able to give more accessibility pointers.

Agree with the points made above, although I quite like the colour scheme as well

Unless you are getting plenty of traffic and conversions for the amazon affiliate stuff, I'd question having that there, as it just looks like a bit of filler.

Overall though, its a straightforward site that shows what you do, how do your conversions look? Did you baseline them before you starting making any changes, and if so, have they increased/decreased or the same?

Regardless of peopes comments when it comes to style changes, if your conversion rate plummets, your customers know best and go back to what they like

Happens with some of our sales mails, the old ones look and sound terrible, we tweak, change and make them fantastic, and conversion drops to nothing! Funny old world

I like the new site. I liked the way it told me about what you do in the order that I as a potential customer would want to see that information. For example, customers are interested in what you can do for them and only then will they be interested in you - and that's the way you've presented the information.

I also liked the way the site wasn't too wordy.

The portraits on the home page took a long time to load for me.

Right now, this is what is happening:
1551px × 1146px (scaled to 500px × 369px)

Might consider resizing.

(Side note, are you intentionally linking from the portraits to http://uk (dot) virginmoneygiving (dot) com/GarryBotterill? If so, no worries. If not, might look at that. )

Think one or two of these have been mentioned, if so I agree I'm not stealing ideas .
  • The banner logo has a large gap above it looking out of place.
  • The blue text beneath the portrait images looks a bit out of place as most the other text is black, could look better in black but this is my personal preference.
  • Amazon widget is rather large, could remove the widget and have a few small text links in the side bar instead.
  • Possibly rearrange the site and have the support and membership logos (London Art Collage, Hounds for Heroes, Facebook) listed in one row along the bottom. At the moment they are dotted about and seem like they are padding out the site.

Oh and the gallery pictures are pretty cool
