Thumbs up I will rate your competition on Google

Alright guys

This is pretty simple... I am a pro at seo and one thing about seo is choosing the right keywords and a factor of that decision is the competition that you will be going up against.

With my experience and going up against and dominating, I have a pretty good eye when it comes to competition and judging

how hard it is to be on the first page/top 3
how much work is going to be required to achieve it
how long it will take to get there.

I have the tools, the eye and the knowledge...

So I offering my help to the people of this forum

Just simple post your keywords + the name of your website (lets not hyperlink them) + your budget if you have one (this last one will affect the time and potentially how much work)

Then I will reply with my answers to those 3 factors up there. So lets get started.

Thanks JamesK

p.s. if it seems like I'm cocky, I'm not I just know what I'm doing

Nothing wrong with cocky if you know what your doing - I am sure there are some people who would love some help.

Can I make on suggestion though? is it possible to apply only to members that are members who are taking part in the forum not people who join today and take up your offer.

Just a thought

Have moved this over to the Village Market, as its obviously self promotion, but I like the ballsy approach, "I'm not cocky, I know what I'm doing" Wish more SEO firms would put their money where there mouth is.

I guess for a challenge like this, most people either won't have a budget or will have little idea, so we'll leave that for you to either cost and post or PM.

Assuming this would be above board SEO, not blackhat?

So how about "business advice" for this forum?

Is it realy self promotion? :-P

I don't mind but obviously if it starts to get bad with just loads of people just signing up and asking for it then may be, but to get started i don't really mind.

erm i stick to greyhat stuff for local websites anyhow :P. dont do any blackhat to my own local sites so wouldnt count it here.

So whos first?

What attracts me to an SEO company is seeing their own site and also some of their previous work Without that, everythings a bit of a non starter...

"business advice" for every country or just the uk?

I had a quick little look at "business advice" (uk) and I will tell you to find a different keyword just from looking at the competition that you will face.

You will have to have a big budget (even if you use blackhat, but a huge one just for grey hat, or you will have to do a lot of the work yourself, thats writing, submitting, etc to cut costs) but i see time as money. Your forum is more established than I first thought, but this will be an on going battle as these guys seem to be fighting for it. I would choose a less competitive term but still highly searched and relevant.

I will say 6-12 months for you to get on to the first page of google, but then there is no slowing down, what ever pace you have got there with you have to keep on, because you will fall if you slow down.

It will be a lot of work, I would say 30 hours a week minimum (thats the minimum i would do, obviously doing seo for other keywords included as well)

Its do able though, the only things is that this is a forum on the first page not content, but you can work around it I suppose, but you will have to figure out how much you will potentially get in return from being on the first page of google for this term, then work out if its worth going for

JamesK hope you're using this challenge (and the results you'll get for it) as fodder for a few local press features as well as material for your site? If you haven't planned either, you're missing a trick or two!

Just for the hell of it ... I'm going to chuck in "graduate careers advice", zilch budget - because (a) I believe it's an impossible target; and (b) my site used to be on Google page 1 for it before the big sites started optimising for the term. Then I'm going to chuck in the requirement only white hat SEO work is permissible.

Can anyone think of an alternative, less competitive term for "graduate careers advice" (which is the more serious question)? Tomsk came up with two crackers when I was stuck on the "career planning" term, for example - I'm still up at the very top of Google pge 1 for "career planning advice" and "career planning assessment", for which many thanks.

Good luck, Linda.

Ok first (a bit of site analysis) your url is way to long, keep it short and sweet. you have added all your keywords in to that page's url.

Secondly, the only backlinks you have for that page is all from MLF, you will never get to the first page with just links from MLF

Ok so grey hat would be perfect for you, in my opinion your site's stats:
-its old
-it has pr
-seems to have authority

All it needs is links, links, links. Links from all kinds of places.. I haven't looked in that much detail but from what I can see this term is definitely not impossible.. Hard work yes (especially with only white hat and no budget) I would have to say you will need some kind of budget unless you have people who can write you a lot of articles, press releases, blog posts, and so on in your business. Because you will get tired of doing that.

you are currently 26th in google.co.uk and 27th in google.com for that term, and then 15th in bing and 16th in yahoo.

If your site was brand new then yes it would be even harder, but your site is perfectly setup for this term. Just the right seo tactics and a strategy.

A white hat tip, get listed in DMOZ directory, nearly all your competitors have, this will give you an added boost (not a lot though) try and get some links from .edu and .gov sites (you should thinking of the niche you are in).

Links Links Links. I cant say exactly for how long with white hat and no budget, because that means you will have to do all the work, and that depends on how much you can do and how quickly you can do it. But you will lose hope and get frustrated from doing all yourself. Finding places to get links from, writing, posting, checking up.. it all adds up to time :P

The most important thing... this keyword is not impossible, if you know/believe that being on the first page of google is going to bring you £xxxx of money to your business and you have a little £xxx extra why not go for it? The fact that your 26th is great

P.s. i didnt do any keyword analysis as this isn't the point, so i dont know if the keyword is worth going for or not.

Hope this has helped

JamesK
