Agree totally, was referring to approvedbusiness, it looks like a pretty good directory, so go for a free listing.

Have to be a pretty slick upsell pitch to get me to upgrade though, mind you, if they convinced me, I'll prob offer them a job

Do people actually pay that to get in a directory? It's only around £180 for a lifetime listing on BOTW

My wingman Clive was chatting to a plumber yesterday who spends £7.5k each year on Yell, which I can't get my head around.

He's obviously see's a good return, otherwise he wouldn't do it year on year, so guess its down to what works for you. BOTW will give you a good permanent inbound web link, but prob little no traffic or referrals. Yell will give you good referrals (at a price), but only if you keep shelling out.

Each directory has its own strategy, free, re-subscription, lifetime, guess its down to the punters to decide.

At least now I know why you plumbers charge so much! Hmm, think I need to put my prices up

I can believe that, I use to spend around £15k plus a year on advertising in Yell, Thompsons plus the local papers. I haven't done any paid for advertising for over 5 years now, everything really has been invested in the internet now and I spend around £2k a year now, quality of work is much better and a constant flow too. Had 6 large quotes last week to do and 4 of them have so far been won. Although I visit around 30 - 40 properties a week I very rarely see an old fashion directory directory lying around...
