Ask yourself from their point of view, have you earned one?

Kevin

Introduce an appraisal system. Answers your problem in one hit.

Hi Kev

I always found the direct approach worked well when I was at my previous job.

I identified where I could improve on sales/commissions or how i could earn extra revenue and then asked for a meeeting with the powers that be, as i recall normally over a pint (I did get on quite welll with them lol).

After a few of these meetings whenever I called a social pint with the directors they knew what was coming and more often than not had already discussed an offer.

We all think that we deserve an automatic payrise but as Kip said though - in the eyes of the powers that be do you deserve a pay review?

Depends on what those issues are, why dont you try and overcome them somehow? Be careful not to over as too forceful or arrogant though, something i have a habit of lol

Winning a promotion when you've less than 2 years in the job is as unlikely as winning a lottery prize ... it might happen but probably won't. And right now, most employers won't be handing out pay rises too quickly either.

Taking on high prestige, high visibility extra duties (eg writing for your company web site, mentoring new starters, etc) could improve your promotion prospects for the future though.
