Another crazy day..
Had to go and fit a new flush valve in Kensington yesterday, wasn't really looking forward to it as you can't park nowhere near the job. Anyway parked up and of I went Because everything is concealed I originally quoted 3 hours for the work which was all agreed beforehand, Managed to do it all in 40 minutes Back to the van I go, decided to move the van, then thought I'd pull over and make a quick telephone call into the office. An old woman starts tapping on the van window, I unwind the window and she shows me what I thought was a brass olive, "it's an olive" I said to her, she replies she just found it in the street and that it is a ring. And she gives it to me, still not convinced I'm still thinking it's an olive and hands it back to her, she then points out the hallmarks to me and gives me it back to take a closer look, sure enough it's hallmarked 18k. So I hand it back to her and said lucky old you. She then tries it on her fingers and it wont fit, so she then said "you try it on" Well I did and it fitted, not that I wear jewelery or have any interest in it, so I handed it back to her again. By this time all I want to do is get away from her as she is now starting to do my head in. "No no" she say's I'm from Poland and an evangelist you keep it, at this stage I'm begining to wonder why is it always me that attracts fruitcakes, they just always zoom in on me. "Ok if it makes you happy I'll take it" she then passes it back to me, 30 seconds later she pipes up "it must be valuable yes so give me some money for it" I then start to think that this is becoming part of a scam and I'm getting sucked in, but I desperately want to get away. Apart £1 coins I never carry money on me, so I gave her £2 and just drove off. I spent the rest of the day driving around wondering whether I'd been scammed or not. Anyway curiosity got the better of me, so when I got home I popped into the local pawn shop and they said......Its worth £460 I didn't have the heart to sell it.
