Default Advice Please - Break In

We last week had our house broken into and the little sods stole shed loads and then to add insult to injury drove of in my car!

I am looking to see if there is a company that will handle my end of the issues with the relevant insurance companies a bit like the no fee accident people (although I am happy to pay fee)

I am assuming the insurance companies are looking to get out of paying as much as they can so would like someone who knows the industry and is in my corner.

Any ideas?

So sorry to hear your news Tomsk.

This is an "off the cuff" response from someone who's only had to claim for a car write-off and who was helped then by a cousin working in the insurance sector.

In the circumstances (break in, police crime no and investigation, etc), I don't think you'll have any difficulty in getting your insurers to pay up properly and promptly.

Your problems, I feel, are more likely to centre on working out what your policy actually means and can pay for; being aware of everything that's gone; valuing everything you've lost (eg have you retained back-ups for the software you were developing or has that gone with your computers?); and haggling over terms for future insurance. So much of this info is stuff that only you and your family know, I'm not sure how much help a third party could be.

Heartfelt sympathy to you and your family.

Hi Tomsk

Firstly sorry to hear the news - its a pain - duno if you read my post a few weeks back but someone tried getting in to my house but didnt actually get in.

Im an ex broker so happy to help with any queries you may have about your policy - im not aware of any company that will help you in the way you are hoping but they may well appoint a loss adjuster who acts as a go between you and the insurance company.

The policy may be daunting to read through but everything you need to know about your cover will be in there somewhere!

Please feel free to pm me for my number if you want a chat and im happy to give you some pointers

That's really the sticking point for me, if I where a loss adjuster getting business from an insurance company who's nest would I feather?

Thanks for you info and may well take you up on your offer.

You are more than welcome to give me a call - im a bit rusty but still can read through the red tape of a policy

Hope the Police catch the little baskets! They did a superb job on the moron that tried to break in to my house, even took forensics off the fence panel he broke when he climbed into my garden - sadly they couldnt get a conviction on my house but 3 others he did that night he got done for

Well handling insurers used to the work of insurance brokers - but these days everyone seems to go direct.

A good broker would be able to haggle for you? Sorry to hear of your situation though best of luck.
