Default Travel Insurance

Has anyone got any recommendations.
I always used to use the Post office and pay the premium but they have recently managed to screw up my house and car insurance so I have lost faith in them a little.

I've always got our travel insurance through RAC. We based it on if we were driving abroad - they do the breakdown cover, travel insurance etc. So, as the old saying goes, "only one throat to choke"

Good morning, Stavros.

I have used AA on previous occasions, but found Columbus Direct to be the best deal this year. I chose them, as I specifically wanted cover in the event of the airline going bust.

After booking with them, we had the threat of flight disruption because of the volcanic ash cloud, on top of everything else, and found that we were covered for this as well should we have been affected. As it happened, all was fine.

I will also give you all a couple of tips when it comes to insurance.

Tip 1
I cancel mine every year and sign up as a new policyholder. The reason I do this is because as a new policyholder you get discounts as an existing customer you don't. This saving me lots of pennies very year!

Tip 2
If you use price comparison sites to search for cheaper insurance DON'T pay off the price comparison site. Use these sites as a research tool only and pay direct from the insurance company - you will find in the majority of cases the insurance is £20-£50 cheaper than that quoted on the comparison site. (prices are over inflated to allow for an affiliate payment to the comparison site)

What do they say........"Take care of the pennies and the pounds take care of themselves"

For travel insurance you should buy from any insurance company, not rely on post offices, since they cannot provide you high degree of services or assistance. So always buy a travel insurance according to your need and from a reputed company.

Travel insurance is a kind of insurance which is easily available in market to cover you on your entire trip duration. If you have already used any travel insurance ever, examine your insurance company and see the records, analyze service the company provides you and finally prepare a list of number of companies and their costs of premium, compare that to get better among these companies. If possible, contact any insurance expert and tell your need, he can simply tackle you and provide you the better options. A quality travel insurance firm ought to have the ability to provide you with a terrific and comprehensive choice of insurance products to best meet your needs.

As with ANY insurance policy cover is critical as is the excess payable on each section. Not all polices are the same and cover varies from company to company. Good old fashioned research is required to ensure good cover.

Dont be afraid to exclude cover if you dont need it - for example does your home contents insurance cover your possessions away form the home? If it does you cant claim on both polices and chances are your Travel Insurers will ask you in the event of a claim. Save yourself some money & delete it if you are covered - best to check.

If you are travelling within any EEC Country dont forget to apply for an E111 health card - this allows you to get free or reduced medical attention in around 27 countries, If you dont use one your Insurers could apply an increased excess or even worse not cover you !
