I wanted to get people's thought's on Flash and SEO. I generally steer clear of Flash. However, I am looking to to create a site where Flash would be really helpful. An example would be the B&O site COLLECTION - Bang & Olufsen
I read a while back Google and friends were working on reading flash sites better. Does anyone have any advice on making a Flash site more SEO friendly. If not, and if would completely stay away from flash, how or what would you use? |

Traditionally I think it's the way Flash was implemented. We used to have flash buttons for our menu buttons, home etc, but we could never get google to see them, so went back to text links and images. But apparently google will index flash content, here's an interesting site run by some dev's - Flash 'n' SEO Indexing - Flash Crawling Experiment
But in this brave new world, and with more content being seen on mobile devices, I thought the world was slowly moving away from Flash and moving towards HTML5 and its native support for video. The flash restriction on ipads is frustrating but they are still flying off the shelves. Googles trialing the HTML5 Video Player for You Tube, which could show which way the winds blowing. Flash, Javascript, stuff like that, are hard for crawlers to read. I heard once that some bots are actually coded to ignore these in most cases? Interesting thing about the text links etc? Most IM training courses still say its the best way to get things done.
If anyone could shed some light, it would be greatly appreciated.

My site contains flash and am first on yahoo, bing and 10th (but crawling fast) on google for my main keyword 'broken laptop screen' and am 6th on google for my other main key phrase 'htc desire screen repair'
my domain is less than 12 months old, page rank is 1 and I have 114 backlinks. Surely flash can't be having a massive on my SEO? I understand it could be hard to read, but I struggle to a agree that all the brain boxes at google can't work something out to defeat the flash issue

Not only does flash take a while to load but it does not help seo at all it almost destroys any seo work that has been done. Stick with a normal site trust me i make on average 20 sites a month and i also work for an SEO company. hope this helps

The age of Flash is now in decline. Apple is a no Flash Zone, Googles already moving to HTML5 and looks like Microsoft is going the same direction, which will really seal the fate for Flash.
