John Terry sacked - right or wrong

Ok so now John Terry has been sacked as England captain for an alleged affair with an ex team mates girlfriend. Has this brought the sport in to disrepute as alleged?

Doesnt seem so long ago that the newly appointed captain was on allegations of drug testing avoidance charges

I have no axe to grind with either party but seems to me that if you are going to judge someone for something thats happened off the pitch, then surely its best to replace him with someone who hasn’t had a problem previously on the pitch so to speak?

Was reading an interesting kiss and tell article over the weekend relating to this. Some former footballers wife, now bitter because she's been replaced with a prettier and younger model made some interesting accusations.

She claims football managers actively encourage their football stars to get married young, as it keeps them at home and away from the party, drink and drugs scene. She then claimed that they were encouraged to start a family, as managers know a footballer will be less likely to transfer once he has kids at a local school.

All makes great business sense in a harsh business kind of way

I am a Terry fan, but he deserves to be potted for that, 80% of a football teams strength comes from confidence and morale, that would cause a lot of tension in the changing rooms, on the pitch and at any functions.

Terry brought this on himself!

What he does off-pitch should not be judged by anyone.
If that were the case, nobody would be playing football at all............
Did he not set up a great goal his next time out?
Being booted from team captain isn't exactly an ego booster for anyone either is it?
They will all be paro now and wondering who's next...........as it seems now, off pitch behaviour is being used as a tool to decide ones potential on the pitch.

I know what you mean Anita, but it does, it is human nature, how many team mates will think 'Would he sleep with my Mrs too?' 'Wow some friend he turned out to be' etc etc.

Morale is a major part of sports, you should read 'Winning' by Sir Clive Woodward, really opens your eyes. Very motivational too.

I agree with Anita, its all rubbish.

Footballers are notorious womanisers, any woman getting involved in that kind of life cant be naive, these are young guys, at their peak, mollycoddled, huge egos and earning obscene money. They have a skill which has a short working life, and to be affected by nonsense off the pitch is daft. Although can see why managers encourage them to marry, its when kids get involved that it all gets a bit sad.

It is all rubbish, I agree, but what people are not getting is that he has brought this on himself, and whether or not it is acceptable, I think the OP was asking how it will affect the team and morale etc.

From someone that has managed teams and needed to motivate them all day everyday, I can tell you that one cancerous team manager will ruin it for the rest!

i still think what happens off the pitch has no bearing on the mans ability to do the job. That being said wasnt Rio up on drug testing avoidance charges a while back or has this conveniently been forgotten?

A captain needs to be able to manage the team while on the pitch and give clear leadership - this has nothing to do with affairs off the pitch.

Im probably abit late to reply to this.

I think the majority are going with what he does of the pitch should not matter what he does on it.

I disagree, i think sacking of england captain was right, for a number of reasons.

ability do his job, who would know, these games are one off's. not like the league, he got alot of booing, does that play on the mind. i would say so. so was he totaly focused, probably not.

I have been through a seperation and the divorce. the initial early days tears you up, not matter what, whether you cheated or your partner. or for what ever reason, you stayed in pub to long and it was the last straw. all you can think about is your partner, your kids what you or they have done.

If he beat his wife, would you say he should be sacked, cheating is the same, its mental rather than physical, but the same at the end of the day.

he is also a role model, paid alot of money to be that role model for up and coming children and teenagers.

what he did was wrong, and should have to pay a price. what if it was switched and his partner was caught cheating, do you think he could still go on the field and perform as england captain, with total focus to england, i dont really think so.

so i think it was a good managers decision to take pressure away from him, sort his private life out, and come back strong.

no one has said he would not captain england again, thats down to him
