Exclamation The end for Gaddafi!

Looks like the end for Gaddafi has arrived as rebels arrive and fighting breaks out in Tripoli.

Lets hope the world learnt from the Iraq disaster and the post conflict see's some kind of sensible planning and stable goverment put in place, not a power vacumn and a slide into total anarchy.

Interesting turn of events though. Bet there's a sigh of relief from the UK Goverment, I was wondering how long we could afford to keep up air operations bearing in mind we are supposed to be broke!

As a lad I had a Doberman called Gaddafi, he'd run at you at 30ph and knock you flying, but he'd never bite you.... nothing to do with the thread title, but just thought I'd mention it

It was nice to see our local shell garage knocking a few pence off, but the "experts" reckon it could be 12 months before Libya starts exporting again in volume.

Although watching the beeb this morning it seemed all a bit confusing, are the Rebels in control or not? Looks like the propaganda machine is in full swing on both sides.

Only hope it doesn't slide into a land of Mad Max Trouble is, no doubt us and America will come in heavy handed and insist on our Western Style democracy and type of government, which never works in this region, breeds corruption and discontent.

At least Mr Obama was quick to take some credit bless him. 6 months ago he couldn't get out quick enough

It has a similar effect in this country too, it justs seems that wherever us Brits go, more trouble follows whether it be some war torn country or somwhere like Ibiza, no other country causes so much mayhem around the world like the UK does. We never take on the big boys like China who have a terrible human rights record because we know we'd get our butts kicked... funny that

All depend's what context you want to look at it, why do you think we had control of HongKong for so long? The Opium Wars and Treaty of Nanking and all that good stuff.

We've had our moments over the years, some good and a lot bad. We've locked horns with just about everybody, from Russia, France and even ourselves! Maybe we are naturally tribal? Must be all that Viking blood that got poured into our mix all those years ago.

With Colonial power long consigned to history, the reality is we are a tiny nation, with few remaining natural resources, and subject to the same economic conditions as the rest of the world.

But we still think of ourselves as a global policeman, even when it's obvious we can't afford it. Maybe it's time to hang up the gloves, and let the emerging economies like India and Asia take over?

The worrying thing is that the rebels have still not captured Gaddafi and the man has possession of chemical weapons.

The trouble with Iraq was that the Americans tried to do it on the cheap and, therefore, never had enough troops in the area after the War ended.

Be interesting to see if the Arab League actually wakes up and takes on the responsibility for security and peace keeping...
