Default annoying neighbours / neighbours from hell

Haven't felt the need for a rant for ages But need to get this off my chest.

There is nothing worse or more disruptive than annoying neighbours

We live in a quiet cul de sac, the majority of the residents are very friendly, we have a good mix of young and old, and its very kiddie safe.

But unfortunately every street has an awkward resident, and ours is no exception

Older couple, old biddy at home all day, nothing to do all day except busy body. They have had a reign of terror for about 20 years, moaning at the state of peoples gardens, instigating parking disputes, sending anonymous letters, even booking workmen to do repairs on peoples houses without their knowledge!

Now I can't be doing with street bullies, and from the moment I arrived, they started their reign of annoyance. But humour and sarcasm normally does the job, and and the wife is very good at calming me down and cancelling the 40 tonnes of manure for their front garden...

But recently we planned an extension, after them trying to block our plans (un successfully) we then had to put up with visits from environmental health, who were responding to noise complaints, as well as our builders getting abuse, and their vans getting blocked in.

But, we now have a great extension, and just waiting for a few snags to get finished, one of them being the drive, which sunk under the weight of a skip lorry

So, last week we get an anonymous letter through the door, addressed to the occupiers, and from the "concerned residents".

Basically citing what a state our drive is, the amount of disruption we have caused... blah blah blah...

After my sensible wife prised the baseball bat out of my hands, and brought me down from the ceiling, she simply said, "pin the letter to the tree in the front garden".

Now I'll confess to being unconvinced and thinking all sorts of evil thoughts while driving to work.

I came home that night, and low and behold, are tree has been adorned with messages of support from residents, who have had similar problems themselves.

We then started getting people coming to the door and telling us all about their stories, and years of stress they have been under! All in all, it seems to have been turned into a counselling session!

So I pinned a reply to the tree, in my usual sarky manner, thanking the unconcerned residents, and inviting them all to a big BBQ as soon as the weather picks up, and informing everyone that the reign of terror is officially over, and our tree is now the designated "Tree of Shame". Any more anonymous complaints, feel free to pin them to our tree.

The neighbours in question? Radio Silence, not a peep.

Until today....

This morning 2 coppers turned up, read all the notes on our tree of shame, and came had a chat with the missus. After looking round and nosing at the extension, they said they have no idea what they are going on about, and left us a card. Any more probs, just simply give them a bell.

So the moral to this rant is listen to your wife, she knows what she's talking about, and put down that baseball bat....

Next house will be in 4 acres of land, with a huge wall all around it, gates and a watchtower...

Busybody neighbours! Ahhhhhhhh

Had similar neighbours in our time the only advantage is they keep bulgars away, lol.

My wife is the same, she's home all day so cannot upset anybody, although I did park a Police Car in the next doors parking spot outside his house one day, think he got the message.

No a Metropolitan Police Telecommunication Technical Office Grade 2 after I left my Ministry of Defence apprenticeship at EQD Aquila. Was on call and had to pop home to get a change of clothes, early 1980's IRA etc!

What those neighbours have done is tantamount to harrassment since every case has been unfounded and wasting valuable police and council time.

I would seek advice from a lawyer and complain to the police of harrassment and get an injunction served on them. People can't go around annoying you like that because they can't get their own way.

Yup, agree totally, but missus said the coppers were actually really good, couldn't see a problem, were going to chat to the idiots and tell them to stop wasting peoples time. Plus we can call them if we had any further issues.

With the missus preggars, shes quite laid back about it all, and doesn't need the stress or hassle of me stirring things up. So the current policy of public humiliation seems to have done the trick, and to be fair, calling the coppers has just re-inforced their current standing in the street.

Maybe not the best outcome for an alpha male, and I know what I'd really like to do, but somethings are more important.

If I disappear for a while, then you'll know my patience ran out....

Think we have all had this type of nieghbour at one stage or another.

With my nieghbour from hell it was all down to jealousy. I realised that when ever I did any home improvements to my property he would get nastly and sometimes quite abusive. It was quite often stupid things really to intimidate me.....bricks thrown on the garden, the bolt on the inside of his high gate I needed go through to get to my back door closed knowing full well I couldn't reach over to undo it and get through (the height think again lol)! It was quite scary at times and I had to call the police on one occasion. Luckily they moved.

Unfortunately....they came back 3 years later to live next-door-but-one!! I live in a terrace (4 houses to each block) but thankfully he was not in the same block.

His jealously hasn't improved though and he still wants to be top dog but I can handle him better now. In fact I had to chuckle when I changed my car a few months ago. My new(er) car is a couple of years old and much newer than his and he didn't like this fact. So much so that one week later I spotted him at the local car sales garage weighing up a car that was 6 months newer than mine.....so pathetic!

I hear that... I had nightmare neighbours at my previous property. Me and my flatmate had noise abatement notices galore. Once, we had one issued and we weren't even in the flat! They were a young couple, moved out from the city...so glad they're nowhere near me now.

It really is unbelievable, you hear so many stories of neighbours from hell, it seems every streets got at least one! These people just have too much time on their hands, shame they couldn't be more productive with it!

Then you see things like the news footage of Japan and it puts it all into perspective.
