Exclamation New ASSET speed cameras

UK drivers beware! Our roads are soon to be under the watchful eye of the ultimate speed camera, ASSET (Advanced Safety and Driver Support for Essential Road Transport). ASSET uses 3D technology to detect multiple driving offences at once. The ASSET can detect speeding, tailgating, whether you're wearing a seatbelt and whether you have valid tax and insurance.

Sounds like a Rant, so moved it to the rant forum

Are these the little cameras that have sprung up in front of the old box type ones? Noticed a few around Warwickshire, think someone said they now check for tax disks, although not sure how that works when you're driving away from them

I'd assume it reads the reg plate and then cross-references for tax and insurance status of the vehicle.

Exclamation Winter driving tips

Wash and go - dirt, melting snow and corrosive salts during the winter months will cause a lot of undetected damage so don't wait until the warmer months for a spring clean when it'll be too late for a cheap fix.

Warm up - ensure your car is warm before setting off as revving a cold engine can cause additional wear.

Be prepared - those days as a scout will pay off if you prepare an emergency kit. This should include a rug, a couple of containers of salt and sand, jump leads, snack foods, water and extra deicer.

Default New asset

The ASSET can detect speeding, tailgating, whether you're wearing a seatbelt and whether you have valid tax and insurance. ASSET will generate instant multiple penalties for drivers which raises the possibility of an instant ban.

Whilst overall feedback is that the camera will be welcomed, with a price tag of £50,000 per camera, there are concerns that the camera is merely a money making machine

cant see this being a problem for the average driver, seeing as all the requirements are law anyway.
sure we all accidentally creep over the speed limit every now and then, but as for tax, insurance, setabelts, and tailgaiting?
I'm pretty sure it wont be affecting me

So they've just introduced the average speed check cameras... now they want others which are 50k each?! Christ, that is just silly.

I'd like to know how the seat belt technology works. Different factors such as clothing colour... or even open fleeces covering the seat belt. Or having seat belt comforters for your shoulder. Maybe the sun hits the windscreen and glares... I'd like to know how the technology combats these problems.

As for tailgating, will this be monitored over time? Does the camera thing you're a tailgater because you're stuck in M25 traffic? Or some donut slams on his brakes ?

So many questions! :P
