Default Vehicle road tax

Why cant they stop road tax and just put 1p on a litre of fuel, the gas guzzlers pay more the low user pays less, surely that would be a fairer way.

yup agree 100%

But your assuming road tax goes on the roads, and they reguarly put a 1p on fuel already

Roll on a new super duper eco alternative. As soon as someone mass produces a wagon that has the same range and power as my Nissan Patrol, which comes in at about the same price, I'll have one. A battery life of 400 miles would do me a treat. Bigger elec bill at home, but no more fuel. Then we'd pay minimal to no car tax as there'd be no emmissions

Instead we a bunch of expensive micro electric cars with a battery life of my laptop.

Can't believe with all the clever boffins in the world we still can beat a 1960's milkfloat...

But dont we all know it just dont go on the roads, look at the potholes, it not really relevant to where it goes i just hate paying for that tax and the tv licence, especially seeing as it is repeats and i pay for sky. i dont mind paying for what i want to watch but not when i dont watch it at all.

Look at the money wasted in this country, Motorways have more signs on it than they surely need, you can go from one end of France to the other and you hardly see a police car, electric warning signs or anything like that and most french drivers overtake and then pull back into the driving lane.

what do we get, loads of signs to tell you its raining and theres spray, surely we already know that cos we have our wipers going, fog on the road, does it pay for the road tax if not it has no right to be there, we know its foggy cos we cant see where we are going, 50 mph signs when we are stopped, ands so on and so on. Road cones when no one is working

off my soap box as i could go on for hours as to why i hate the system in this country.

not just road tax but generally the way money is wasted by government

I'm all for a 'road tax' that is fair and gets spent on the roads, or even a fuel tax that goes towards alternatives...but you're right what we have isn't fair...like many other taxes

Just like our taxes that goes to help pay for flood victims etc then after we feed em etc they want to kill us and our brave soldiers etc. There is something wrong when this is where our hard earnt money goes.

Default tax me dry!!!

I agree.... put road tax in the bin and pay through fuel instead (with a suitable and viable alternative for the haulage and other industries relient upon transportaion for their survival). The whole DVLA operation could be shut down, people redeployed and a fortune saved in bureaucratic gogbbledegook and paper shuffling!
Okay I put my sad hand up. I own a gas guzzler.. I'm into my third mid life crisis (this week!) and have a 3 litre soft top...... I drive maybe 50 miles a week in it and so use little fuel, produce minimal pollution and road wear and yet I pay out a bloody fortune in road tax !!!!! Somebody in a low taxed pope mobile can cover a squillion fog producing miles a year and pay peanuts in road tax. How is that logical, environmentally sound or fair? A fuel tax instead would be self regulating. I'm not going to blast around with my foot to the floor with 25mpg am I? If I do then I'm going to pay proportionally more than my softer footed neighbour.... just the way it should be. ....... rant over, nuff sed.

ps I've had many sensible, boring cars in my life and the Beemer is my well earned penile extension, medallion man treat late in life..... and it's F_A_N_T_A_S_T_I_CCCCCCCCC so there !!!!!!

I have owned many a 4x4 and large vans, the most economical car i owned was a saab convertable, 40 to the gallon, i am trying to sell the wifes fiesta top of the range with everything possible on it and only 5,500 on the clock, not bad for a two year old car.
we want to buy two more 4x4 with the money so we can have one each and keep the van for work only.
so do we really care about the ozone layer and global warming, of course we do, but at 60 years old i want to drive what i want when i want, if we have to pay more for the fuel and no car tax i am quite happy. how do we start a petition again, i have signed one in the past but it went nowhere

I here you... still miss my 330, flying machine, 25mpg ish but still grinning thinking about it, went sensible and changed it for a 320. Complete anticlimax

But needed a caravan tug so now the daily bus is a 3 litre Patrol. We balance the carbon footprint with the missus Audi that does 500 miles to the gallon.

Have no problems being penalised for having a bigger less economical engine by paying via fuel, but resent getting fleeced on car tax as well

Give me a eleccy alternative for the same price, and I'll flog the 4x4 to ithas2bedone tomorrow

i would have it as well if i could get rid of the fiesta, its a lovely car to drive and has a lot of power to offer, but the wife wants another Pajero for herself as she liked the one we had before and i want a good off roader for when i go shooting, funny how everything i shoot goes towards the muddy areas of fields etc. But then Pest control for farmers is a must and if the pests go to the muddy areas, who am i to complain, Not that i like driving through extremely deep muddy areas of course, but -------------
