Member only shopping sites?? Clever marketing or gimmick?
Found this on Business Week. Clever way to dump high end stock if you can pull it off.
"Saddled with unsold merchandise amid the recession, makers of luxury goods are selling their wares through members-only shopping sites.... ...Saddled with overstock from the retail recession, makers of luxury apparel, home furnishings, and other high-end goods are selling their wares at reduced prices through Gilt Groupe and other private shopping sites. Good idea, but shows poor business acumen not to judge market conditions when ordering too much stock in the first place!

You have got to love the marketing boys for pulling this one off. Lets tell them the goods are cheap, exclusive and they have to be invited to purchase them. bring it on. My hats off the marketing boys this is just an excuse to print money.

A very loud Amen! But I must admit I am just as much as a spender, she may buy 4 pairs of shoes, but I come back with Tellies and the such! Just selling my Nikon so I can get a better one!
