If you are trying to build backlinks to a website digg and stumbleupon (but make sure you use the right anchor text in your URL!)

FB pages are also good

This is one of those threads which could go on and on, it really depends on what you want to achieve there are some sites which are more niche than others and some which work for some countries only.

Absolutely. It depends on the demographic you're promoting your site to, sometimes much smaller niche social network sites can prove quite effective in bringing in traffic.

Exactly works the same way as directories do the general ones are fine but smaller niche ones will give you a better return as it will be more targeted traffic

Wink LinkedIN for me

I have picked up a bit of business from Linked In mainly football tours from semi pro clubs and pro acadamys who have taken advantage of our Barca and Benfica Acadamy trips but also I have gained some good contacts from people on their who have passed my information onto their friends etc and vice versa.

Also i think Free Index is is a good site for a lot of businesses but not really suitable for myself.
