How much social network sites successful in generating traffic?

What is the best process of using social network sites for maximum benefit?

I love the instant this you get with social networks.
I personaly automate the entire proccess output to twitter and then output to other social networks.

What about other social media optimization techniques which can generate instant results. As people want to get immediate results with least affords.
Do you think any other site then twitter can make this out?

Other peeps may have a take on this but me personally twitter provides a very easy api to integrate into and away fromout onto facebook\myspace\linked in and plurk.

Another methog is to create various groups on linked-in etc that surrounds your business space and network that way.

Depends which social networks your on about. Things like Twitter work well for this forum, and the feed is automated, but other social networks like facebook have been a waste of time for us.

Other forums work well, including some cross promotion, so I tend to stick with forums and twitter.

I totally agree with Steve, Hence why I automate from twitter to the other social networks, I dont mind spending half a day on a set and forget task but I would not be able to sustain the effort to keep the other networks updated.

So far we haven't had much luck with are social networking in terms of generating traffic but it is a good way to keep in touch with your audience.

I agree with the others that you should start with twitter and then integrate it into other sites like facebook as a feed. We keep facebook going simply because it is low maintenance, setup and it updates from twitter, no extra work but that other option is their for your customers.

Another good thing about twitter is there are many ways you can show it on your sites homepage allowing it to act as a mini-news feed for people viewing your home page.

So focus on getting people to your site, then keeping in touch with them through social updates .

Also check out TweetDeck, its a decent little app for managing your social sites.
