Default Parameters for going up in the search results

I must be missing something when looking at my competitors in the G search results.
I have taken one of them as an example and analysed it as much as I could using some of the available tools.
My website currently has PR2 with 380 links back, where some of them from websites with PR5
The competitor's website has PR1 and only a few links back from the websites with PR 0-2.
The other factor is competitor's website is there since 2007 while mine is just a couple of month.
My website's content is far more complete comparing to the competitor's content which is minimum.
Even after the G's recent update my website is still below the competitor's site for each keyword in the search result window.
Why?
Where is the logic?
What else I am missing?

"Parameters for going up in the search results"

That Lina is known as the Google algorithm, the holy grail of how to get your keywords and site to the top of page 1, and the exact factors and how it works are known only to Google!

All we can do is go from personal experience and each others results to try and figure it out.

I did a 101 post which may help http://www.mylocalforums.com/seo-web...n-newbies.html

But for my money, ref your competitor in question, I'll bet he has a lot of links linking back to with decent anchor text, ie the keyword you are competing for.

Copied the anchor text bit from my 101 post:

3. Anchor text – This simply is the text you want to display when someone is linking to you. In other words think keywords! If your URL was SEOsteve.com you might want the displayed text to read SEO 101. Code wise, this would look like this:
<a href="http://seosteve.com">SEO 101</a>

Anchor text is extremely powerful. I personally would say it is the most important aspect of SEO, and even if your web page had poor content, little optimization, get 50 websites to show your URL on their homepage with your anchor text keyword, I’ll bet money you’ll get a decent ranking on Google.

All my 380 links have the anchor with the relevant keyword

What keyword(s) are you working on?

Can see your page title keywords for your index page are Local Hairdressers Milton Keynes which is number 2 on Page 1 Google

and Home Hair Salon which shows as number 7 on Page 1 Google.

Which is pretty good going for a competitive market.

The keyword is "Hairdressers Milton Keynes"
Competitor: MKhair

Similarly for the keyword "Wedding Hairdressers Milton Keynes"

MKhair is always above

Again, I can understand if it was people like toni&guy, yellow pages or city local, but MKhair has no content, no links and lower than mine PR

hmmm, interesting one. This is where elements of the magic algorithm kick in! Domain age does play a part, your site is brand new, where as your competitor is established. Different people have different ideas on the importance of this, but our US site gets minimal traffic from google as a result of domain age, which should start ramping up after its 12 months old, if it follows the same path as our UK site.

mkhair has their title text with the keyword with H1 tags. Can't tell if you can as you've locked your code down.

So maybe its a keyword density issue? Content versus keywords?

Noticed if you goto google and type site:yourdomain.com the links displayed all seem to go to 404 pages, ie they're broken, which won't help. (I would at least create a 404 page, as you are showing the default apache one - eg http://www.stylebylina.com/Wedding-H...-Exchange.html)

Sure SEO guru's will throw their 2 pence worth in

That is because I have renamed the htm file for these pages

Lina - I agree with all that Steve has said and particularly the google algorithm

As for your links I am not sure if you have paid for them or bought one of of these $50 link finding companies but a quick look shows for example a link to a blog where next to your link I can also find an escort in Miami (and I don't mean the ford escort kind) also I can find an adult friend in India and several dating websites for me to choose from - oh and a sex webcam if all the other things are not required.

There are a few issues with your site that be causing some minor problems but these will be far outweighed compared to the trouble that links such as the one mentioned above might cause.

No I did not pay for the services, I have manually exchanged links with a lot of relevant to me industries.
I am not shure what you talking about, where did you see the escort links exactly?
