Hi Mike
I've moved your thread to our SEO section. I see you've gone sailing past the 10 posts, so feel free to get your web link in your signature, and if you want a review of your website, then get in What do you think of my Website? - My Local Forums To answer your question, metatags are pointers in your web page that search engines use (or used to use!! - separate debate) to work out the page title, see what keywords relate to your page, and what breif description to show when you see your page in the search results. I say used to use, because their use has come into question in recent years, with the Google God now picking up descriptions off your page, and some people say they are now ignoring keywords ![]() But, you have meta tags in your page, although you are missing the description tag. For example, right click and view source and you will see the meta tags of this particular page: <meta name="keywords" content="Tinterweb, terminologies, Tinterweb terminologies, My Local Forums,UK Business Forums,Business Advice,Small Business Forum,USA Business Forums,Business Forum, small business advice,US Business help,US Business Forum,American Business Forums,Entrepreneur,Business Community" /> <meta name="description" content="Right then a ramble coming on but I feel the friendliness within this forum may well come to my aid. Sooo, I won't repeat my details but suffice it to " /> Tags Tags are another way of searching the forums, so you can add tags to a new thread, and these get indexed and become searchable. Trackbacks Prob easier to post a link to explain, as I normally confuse myself! ![]() What is a Trackback - Trackbacks Explained

And just to show that we web heads do not know everything, when Building Steves corporate site, I included no 'title tags' (title="Random Image Title") into the coding, and after toing and froing between us, I finally clicked what it was, they are now standard on my builds, my sites (my own and clients) are doing much better for it, in fact my SEO stuff is rocketing!
So do listen to Steve, he taught me a thing or too! And I do this for a living! |
