Yes, I probably wasn't very clear in my post. Google will follow these links but its correct that they dont pass as much "juice" in terms of PR. I would still rather a nofollow link from an authority site in my niche than a dofollow from an unrelated site. I have done my own tests and have been able to index a new site purely from nofollow blog comments within a few days without pinging, webmaster tools etc.

To compound the issue, there is already a site at number one that has all of you chosen keywords in it's domain name.

So, keep trying but you'll have a tough job.

I have a work-a-round solution, which I don't think I'll share with you - but I'll have a tinker and if I am number one for the keyphrase "UK business forum" then you can buy me a drink.
I don't think they were on to a loser from the start to be honest. There are many examples where sites with the keywords in the title are out ranked by sites that do not contain any of the keywords.

Also, if you add in the fact that this site and many sites/businesses want to rank for multiple keywords then it is is impossible to have all the keywords you want to rank for in the title. If all you sell is '6 inch coffin nails' and that is all you are interested in ranking for then it would be worth having that as your domain name (though again it is not the be all and end all).

Ranking number 1 for the keywords we looked at was always going to be hard but the point was to show what can be achieved.

Also along with that what ever innocent have been doing it has worked as they are technically 3rd within Google now which is a great result.

Ranking for all the keywords you want is very hard and not all can be achieved unless you have a good team of people working on it.

Along with this I showed “Steve” aka (Business Forum Owner) he was ranking for a keyword he has never even thought about and it’s something which could bring the forum some good traffic.

I worked for a company once where they did only have one keyword so the domain was keyword heavy but they still struggled to get top.

The forum itself is competing in a very hard industry and the fact that the forum is now 3rd is a great result personally I don’t feel the forum will ever be top as the other forum simply gets updated way to quickly.

I would tend to agree with this.

When creating links for your sites I would advise making sure you have a good helping of nofollow links in there as well. It looks a lot more natural and as IT Consultant London has said, it will not hurt to have them.

Hi Garlex,

What are the keywords you're hoping to get front page for? Have you had much luck? I see you have nearly 8000 backlinks a pagerank of 6. I'd imagine you're doing quite well?

Thanks,

Matt.

Hi Matt

I've been working heavily on back links over the last couple of months and yes I have a PR6 site but as we all know, it doesn't seem to count for much these days as far as Google is concerned.

As an SEO 'bod' I'm quite sure you already know how my keywords are doing. So when you say "doing quite well" what exactly are you referring to?

As a matter of interest, we are seeing a steady increase in traffic.

Cheers
