Ahhh!! Forum briefly goes off the air!!!!!

Looks like our server suffered a hiccup. Unlike My Local Services, that run on dedicated servers, the Forum runs on a shared service... for the time being

We experienced a slight load peak on the server, which hosts your account. We have managed to identify the source of the load peak and disabled it. We believe, such issues will not reoccur in future.

After singing the praises of The Planet and claiming we have had 100% uptime, I would like to point out that is for My Local Services which runs on multiple dedicated servers, which is totally separate from My Local Forums. We would never risk MLS by installing off the shelf forum software, which could open us up for potential security vulnerabilities.

So alas for the forum, as this is a new venture, it is running with a different hosting firm, and sat on a shared server. But it costs us tuppence a year, so you get what you pay for!

As the forum is growing nicely and looks like its here to stay, then it's prob time to start thinking about some more robust infrastructure, and maybe a new server just for the forum.

So watch this space....

...and less than a month later, we have another outage

Reminds me of the early days of MLS when we used to have outages every month

Still you get what you pay for, and tuppence hapenny isn't going to provide a robust service, so guess its time to start looking round for a new home.

Maybe a dedicated server for the forum, doesn't need it, but I hate shared servers, never know what other rubbish is on the same box!
