Question Adsense units - they've gone.. or have they...

Ok, so have been going through the to do list, and sorting out the forum adsense units was on the agenda, as Google have changed the code again.

So had a change round, as I love adsense as a revenue stream, but hate it visually.

So as it's mainly guests and lurkers that click any ads, I've decided to switch them off for everyone else.

So if you are a registered user with more than 10 posts, then you shouldn't be seeing any adsense adverts.

If you only have a few posts, then I'm afraid you will see even bigger adsense adverts! So get posting

I've tested it with a few guest accounts so it looks like its working, but if anyone (with more than 10 posts) can still see any adsense, let me know!

Steve

I for one had no issue seeing the ads - and think it's a good trade off for a free forum.

Ps no ads showing for me

Interesting Steve.

I'm also not seeing any ads. Didn't particualrly like them, but almost ignored them after a while.

It'll be interesting if you notice any difference in income as a result, and whether your hypothesis that it's just the guests/lurkers is correct. Sounds about right to me!

Well I've been cheeky, and increased the size. We keep getting told that the 728x90 leader boards generate the most revenue, but I've always resisted on our sites because they are so big, but have decided to give them a trial run, and have also added them to the forum home page.

I'm not a fan of forums plastered in ads, so this should be best of both worlds, newbies get ads, regulars don't

Default 336 x 280

336 x 280 is the biggest and best paying one.

Bring em back I kind of miss them.

Spooky stuff, I agree, the 336x280 has long out performed any others on our sites, but have never used 728x90's as they just look too big. But our adsense account manager has been banging on for ages about leader boards, and she's adamant they are statistically their top performer.

So have finally agreed to a trial run at the bottom of our free listing pages, below our 336, and only a week in, but we've seen about an 18% increase.

Still don't want to put them on the top of the site though, just too plain ugly
