Unhappy Global Gold down again!!!!!! Forum off the air

Why why why is UK hosting so crap and unreliable?????

I am absolutely fed up with multiple UK hosting problems, from dedicated servers to this forum VPS.

Sorry for the latest disruption from GlobalGold - the forum specialists

When we hosted everything in the US, it used to be great.

Have just taken out dedicated servers with Rackspace after recently moving our UK directory to UK based hosting, who have been shockingly bad, and the customer service has been awful. Frustrating after a 3 year outage free run with US based The Planet (now bought out by Softlayer).

Wish in hindsight we had just stayed in America, after being driven there originally by ongoing UK hosting problems....

Maybe Rackspace will live upto their reputation, plus they are US owned!

Turning into a general rant so I'll shut up, but apologies again for the forum disruption and maybe it's time to start looking for a more reliable forum hoster (if one exists).

Honestly, is it too much to ask? Reliability and uptime. I expect it with shared hosting and 5 million websites loaded onto 1 server, but when you are shelling out for dedicated servers or even VPS boxes, you expect a bit better quality and resilience

Anyone mention cloud as an alternative and I will wet myself laughing. If Amazon or IBM can't manage outage free cloud solutions then no one can

Trying to think of parallels in other industries? Maybe buying a new car that may breakdown every couple of months, only to be told that it wasn't the car manufacturers fault, but the widget company that provided the part that broke.

Maybe a restaurant that poisons its guests once in a while, and blames it on where they bought their food...

Guess we will look back in 20 years time and reminisce and chuckle at the frontier and amateur mentality before the internet matured... unless we all get plugged into the matrix first

Default God bless UK Hosting...

...and a few days later, yet another Global Gold outage, 07.15 - 09.21

This time the server where our VPS resides got rebooted apparently, as it was out of resources... obviously they were going to tell us....

Words fail me...

Ouch, Steve I think you've been getting a lot of that 1% of downtime! you know how they say, 99% uptime because any server anywhere will go down at some point. Even for a few minutes.
I do agree though that forum hosting is bad, not head of the company in question before though.
Don't even get into customer service, it's horrible!
This morning on the news I saw that Santander are bringing their call centres to the Uk! from India, bringing jobs back home.
This sounds great, at least the person you speak to will understand what you're asking, even if they tell you to f*off

Doesn't have to be, one of our Planet Servers was up for over 2 years, no reboots, no issues, and when it was rebooted, it was for scheduled website maintenance.

Think scheduled is the key word, any piece of technology or machinery needs maintaining. For some reason, the US have mastered the art of agreeing in advance any scheduled work that may impact your service.

Trouble is, you get used to this, and take it as normal, which is why it's such a culture shock having to deal with UK hosting and poor customer service. Unfortunately we are guilty because we put up with it. "Oh well, was only of the air for a short while". Not good enough, have you lost revenue, lost online reputation? Just takes a few people to moan, oh what a crap forum, it's always off the air

Imagine digging up the footpath outside the local butchers so no customers could get in the shop?" Sorry governor, Just performing maintenance

All of us host our websites in supposedly super duper datacentres, where the word "resilience" is banded around left right and centre. But resilience always seems to disappear when it comes to a problem. The single power feed failed, the single backup generator didn't work, the switch failed, the cable broke, the rubber band snapped.. If your website is the root cause, then thats an easy fix, loadbalance it with another server, but if the infrastructure it lives in is flawed, then thats a bigger problem

I have no doubt there is superb UK hosting out there, and I really want to be patriotic, but from current experience, I just can't seem to find it...

I really hope Rackspace live upto the hype, but Forum wise, I'm stumped. Global Gold come highly reccomended and are supposed to be the forum specialists.

Maybe time to put a server in the garage Or start a hosting company?? Then you can all moan at me

yeah but you never know, could have gone down on the third year! hehe

I hope you can find a decent host, to be fair there's a lot of times sites such as Twitter & Tumblr go down! although Facebook doesn't seem to! maybe you should get onto theirs

SJR Hosting Ltd, 99.99% Uptime Gauranteed, Resiliant Server, Unlimited Bandwidth etc etc. I Like it

hmmm, if you look at how close the "b" and "m" are together on a keyboard, you can tell thye typed it very quickly.

I'm a pro at making typos, but I don't think I've replaced an m wth a b yet. (touch wood). good luck though, I hope its sorted out, or you find a decent host.

Default hmmm another long outage :(

Seems everytime there is a bank holiday, we have another outage

Lastest one down for 19 hours! Apologies all, bloody frustrating!

Time to give the forum some more attention, so looking around at other hosting options, including upgrading to vbulletin 4 and making mobile friendly.
