Default Forum goes up and down like a........

Apologies if you have had problems getting onto the forum. Over the last couple of months, the mini outages have been getting worse, and this morning we were down for a good hour

Its certainly not load, and we supposedly have a Virtual Private Server, which is supposed to guarantee CPU, RAM etc, but I'm less than impressed.

In comparison, My Local Services hosted over at the Planet has been outage free now for over 3 years, although we do use dedicated servers.

So I've had enough of the current hosting company and will be planning a migration next week to maybe ezpz hosting.

A couple of people have suggested moving the forum onto our MLS servers, but as the forum is vbulletin, for security reasons, I like to keep them separate MLS is a bespoke written system and very secure, where as vb is great, but it also needs regular patching.

So bear with us, hopefully disruption will be minimal, and I aim to get it all completed by next weekend, so we can stop these pesky outages!!

Yeah same here with slowness.......

Also have a problem with my browser crashing occasionally (I use FireFox) when on MLF and I don't get this with any other site. I am not the most technical of peeps when it comes to this kind of stuff, so I could be adding 2+2 and getting 5 with this statement - by all means call me a "DUH BRAIN" if the 2 are not connected

Definatley runs slow at times, dunno about the hanging browser though! May just be a time out when the forum goes a bit slow.

Hopefully, this time next week, super fast and outages a thing of the past!!

Well.... drum roll.... we have moved over to our new home at GlobalGold

The migration seemed pretty painless, and already the transaction response times are down from yesterday, so we are faster.

Hopefully, no more daily forum outages.

If anyone spots any odd behaviour or bugs, shout! Everything looks to be in the same place, but you never know

I moved my British Genealogy forum to Global Gold UK back in February and their service is excellent - prices are pretty good, too!

Great feedback Pamela, this is our 3rd move in less than 12 months!! So I'm hoping we've finally found a decent hoster!!

Just checked the transaction times again this morning, since we cut over yesterday, we have gone from a shocking 4 - 6 second response times (with regular 20 second spikes) at TMDhosting.com , to a constant 0.8 seconds at globalgold. Both using VPS, and supposedly similar spec.

Much more like it, and matches response times for our physical servers, so starting to get a good feeling again
