Yes, it helps to get a niche quality backlink for your website

It depends who you are exchanging with. A one-way backlink is more powerful than a recipricol link but a recipricol link from a good quality site can be effective. Make sure it is relevant though.

I agree - but do not spend too much time on this. You can spend weeks of your life sending emails to people who are just not interested. But, if there are like-minded people in your niche then go for it.

I dont do link exchange at all, its a waste of time.
The links you get may be related but it provides with hardly any value, and Google is smart so it will see that you guys are linking to each other. You will be better of using your time building other better links. J |

The problem only exists if your whole strategy is based on such links.

It made sense about 3 years ago for sure. Google doesnt value a link to your website if your sending a link straight back to it.
The reason why I think its not worth much is because most of the links is on a seperate page of the website.. domain/links or domain/resources and these pages contains a lot of other links as well. If you want to do a link exchange properly you want to request a link on their homepage, then you will get the maximum benifit from it. But these links on those sort of pages with 100s of other links going out. It is simply not worth the effort. The one way around it is to have 3 website in play, you have two websites a and b. you link to the guy using website a and then he links to your website b. This will be better than two website linking to each other. Also you need you need to check the link you get to see if its on a page that is indexed in Google and its not a nofollow page. You will get something from it but my person opinion though is its not worth the time and trouble setting it up. Last edited by sjr4x4; 12-09-11 at 11:07 AM.
