Hi Greg

Not sure there is a best way as such, just find the method that suits you. It can depend on the type of site your looking to optimise, and if you are considering some paid links, such as directories.

Good place to start is directories, plenty offer free links. Paid route, one thats really worth getting listed in is the Yahoo Directory. Then there is the DMOZ.org which is free, but can take months (years!!) to get in.

Places like forums, you can put a link in your signature, so sign up with plenty of relevant forums. Then as you suggest, contacting people. Try and send personlised emails to websites relevant to your content. Don't expect a great response, but perserver and it will get you results.

That should give you a starter for 10

Be prepared for a hard slog though Greg, and ensure you have something to offer back if you are asking site owners that you know already, ie free listing for a link, or something that benefits them too.

Do not fall for the $25 for 20 links scams either, they just end up on lots of tired advert mlm crap, which can cause a negative approach from google.

I am by no means an expert, but I see horror stories and success stories alike, I hope your the latter, and welcome to USBF buddy!

As Steve and KipFX says, there is no easy way, just good old fashioned hard work.

If you do grow weary of it, be very careful if you decide to outsource this. People will offer you all sorts of crazy deals, $1 per link kind of thing. Always remember, linking to irrelevant or poor quality sites can actually harm your ranking.

Google calls it linking to "Bad Neighbourhoods" and is something to be avoided.

Time, patience and common sense are all you need

Default Link building with DomainJr.com

One great way to build links is through the DomainJr.com advertising service.

We found that advertising on DomainJr, especially when advertising on the parked pages, not only drove traffic to our site from the PPC Ads we paid for but we noticed our Ads were also recognized by google as "links". This gave us a huge boost in our google ranking since this was considered a "link" vs an "Ad" on thousands of parked websites. We haven't seen this level of service with our other PPC Ads on google or yahoo. Best part is you still score this link even if you don't get PPC clicks from the DomainJr.com service, Ads just need to display on all the parked pages.

We are still working this almost a year later. It took about 2 months of advertising for us to see a noticeable jump in google. Not exactly sure why this works, but it does. Anyone know how?

Anyway, a little known link building technique you may have luck with too.

Hope this helps

This reminds me, Steve, the link we agreed on before (on my other project) is under a complete rehaul, but your link will be back on that buddy, not forgotten you .

Maybe it's paid for link building, that is the fast and best way.
Yeah before i also confused about how to make it, but now after studying for some time, i can summery up that, pay for what you demand or exchange others who also have the same need..

Why would you want to put links on your site that visitors can click on and leave? There are sooooo many other ways to do SEO...
