Default Top of the morning

Indeed, thought I should start of properly with a hello and a brief (or it gets boring) intro.

I'm a chartered health & safety practitioner (CMIOSH) who for reasons best known to the powers that be, found himself redundant after six years back in Septober of last year.

I used to be in private practice (just me myself...no staff) and got suckered into accepting a position with one of my past clients. It was a good offer but as time went on the investment was not there and the organisation (an international one at that) was no longer able to support the plethora of six figure salaries to the directors (far too many of them as well). Sooo, what do they do? Do they consider Director redundancies??? Noooo, the lower managers get the heave-ho..of course, what a wonderful idea...whoever thought that one up?

To be fair when I went on for the organisation, it was initially as a consultant to investigate a fatality they had suffered. It was on completion of that path that obviously prompted them to offer me a direct employment position. Sadly after a couple of years the company was sold to a Dutch based company with a world-wide presence. wet behind the ears did not come into it and I found it frequently frustrating that a 150k a year Director would take my proposals to the board meeting and claim them as his own (grrr).

'Tis life I guess. Anyway, redundancy followed (sigh) and I felt it was prudent to start all over again in private practice. I'm based in the West Country and hoping that SEO picks me up soon and I get some leads.

Conversely if any member needs some help or advice don't hesitate to give me a shout. It won't cost anything either here on the forum It is a strange industry and nowhere near as bureaucratic as you may believe. Many of the so called 'elf n safety' issues are either fear of litigation or are a complete and utter load of twaddle.

Mike

Thanks Clive and what a cracking guy you are to have helped me out. Should the inspector ever call and you get stuck simply shout loud and proud and I'll tell you how to handle it. It is the best offer of reciprocal (thank goodness for swell-chequer) help I can think of right now

Note to self; "must not post too much today, feel rants coming on"

Mike

Hi there Mike, welcome to the goodship MLF Sounds like our man Clive has been sorting you out!

Interesting story, sounds like an ever familar tale of woe, corporate politics and mis-management. But like the murphys, we're not bitter

Great to have you aboard, and look forward to hearing the truth behind some of this 'elf & saftey bonkers world we seem to live in.

Right Clive, make sure that Kettle has an EU approved plug on it, and my tea bag has the right number of holes
