Talking New member saying hello

Hi, I just started an online silk and dried floral arrangement shop in November of 2011. I went to school years ago to be a floral designer and worked in a floral shop, until this year I decided to open my own online silk and dried floral shop. I have been doing floral designs for over 15 years. I have so many new things to learn about marketing, sales, and just getting your name out there! I hope to get some advice and some ideas from fellow business owners and people who have some input for me. I have listed my business on lots of free business listings and trying to not spend a ton of money at the same time. Though, the motto you have to spend money to make money is yelping right behind me! looking forward to this site and what I can learn

Hi and good luck!

Ways of getting your name around that (sometimes!) work in the UK include doing displays for women's organisations (eg WI, Townswomen's Guild, etc).

You'd need to be a confident speaker / demonstrator, bring your own business cards for passing around and do your best to tap into the local publicity these organisations' meetings routinely attract. The local newspapers here are often so desperate for copy they'll print the speakers' names and their company details as part of their reports on the meetings of these organisations.

There are other benefits of doing "freebie" presentations to the local organisations. Most of them are part of national associations - so your details get passed up the chain. You may be "forced" to accept a speaker's fee even though the deal you offered was a "freebie" (this was our experience - we paid the fee to a charity).

Best wishes, Linda
