Thumbs up Hi From Sussex

Have been using My Local for a few years, but didn't know there was a forum section.
My name is Mark and along with my wife Lyne we run a Mobile tyre fitting service. Both of us have been trained by a division of Continental tyres in Birmingham. As far as we are aware she is one of the only felmale tyre fitters in Sussex.
We are coming up to our 3rd year in this business, and it is tough in a recession. As an example; yesterday I was fitting tyres to an £50000 Mercedes AMG with 19" wheels and the customer wanted the cheapest budget tyres available!
Previously I was a sales and engineering manager to a large Japanese automotive toolmaking company, but due to the loss of UK owned automotive plants the Japanese pulled out of the UK market.
So any questions you may have on tyres please let me know.

Welcome to the Forum Mark, glad you found us

So is Hometyre a franchise business or do you run the whole show?

I've used it myself, 5 star service when one of your bods put new boots on my trusty Nissan Patrol outside my house. Was certainly easier and cheaper than the local Kwikfit!

Hi sjr4x4,

Yes, Hometyre is a franchise, It is postcode allocated, and I have the BN (Brighton) area, which covers most of sussex. The group HQ is in Shropshire.
Glad you had a good service from one of the other franchisees.

If you move your mouse under someones username, you will see some drop down options, on of them is the Private Message option, select this, and you can send a PM to Tomsk.

Hi mark congratulations to you and your wife on your new venture, hope everything is going well.
Im up in glasgow and have been looking into setting up in this business for a while now.I would really appreciate your thoughts on this.
Do you find that people genarelly want this kind of service and is going it alone or franchising the way to go.Do you find you are kept busy.
It makes sense to me to have your tyres done while at home or at work but do you charge more than a standard tyre shop for this.
I see quite a few ready to go vans on ebay for around £10k,so does this mean people are not gtting work and moving onto something else.
Thank you in advance for your help.

Hi,
Going the franchise way is best for having a group behind you helping with the website, and advertising. Getting your name known if you go it alone is the hardest part, which is why so many small ones fail. Also They have to take calls, from customers and source tyres while they are working, which slows them down. They only tend to have local wholesalers so if a tyre isnt available, then they are stuck. Through Hometyre, I have 5 local wholesalers, but also 20+ around the country, so difficult to source tyres can still be found.
Hometyre now has around 22 ~ 24 franchisees, and we are still growing. Cost to the customer is usually cheaper than local garages, although we try not to sell the very cheap Chinese tyres. Our budgets are mid range tyres elsewhere.
Most days I am busy from 10am till 5 pm, sometimes it can even be 7am till 9pm. Most customers come back once they have used us once. Example today I had 3 jobs this morning, 1 was a returning customer, and the other 2 were new customers where we had been recommended by their friends. We also do the odd big promotional event, like April 27th ~29th there will be around 6 of us attending the National Motorhome show, where we will turn up with a lorry load of tyres, tyron bands and TPMS systems. We will then set up a marquee and be out fitting the stuff to motorhome customers. It is a great way to get the name around.
