Default New to all this

Hi,

I am Richard Lister and am a Chartered Accountant in Wakefield, West Yorkshire (or as some of us oldies like to remember West Riding).

I keep getting chivied by my son's to get online and make contacts as this is the way people are doing business nowadays, they are going to set me up a Facebook and Twitter account sometime so I will get dragged into the 21st Century if I like it or not.

I have been in practice for 26yrs now and have been supplying accountancy service to Wakefield along with a number of sole practitioners (thats sole trader term for a Chartered Accountant)in the town.

I like to think that I provide a professional service and try to have a reasonably quick turnround in the work I do, although in the next two months I envisage we will be busy with completing Tax Returns for the 31 January 2012 deadline so Limited Company work may be put to one side to give prioity to sole traders and partnerships.

If you want to contact me google accountants wakefield and i will come up on the list, I offer a free 1hr consultation.

Hi Richard,

Welcome to the forum.

I would say your son is right, business contacts are made more via Twitter and Facebook but sales are still done the good old fashioned way 'face to face' especially in the professional service industry.
I dont know whether you have or are doing it but another way to network your services is to allign yourself with another service provider such as Insurance agent, solicitor, architects... as this give you an opportunity to build contacts from a large range of professional companies which in turn will lead to more 'free' opportunities.
Just to give you an example, I work in Insurance and I have an accountant as a approved supplier/contact and so any referrals he passes across he gets paid a cut in my commission for the introduction all FSA regulated and the client still pays the same premium, just as a thank you. In return he has access to my clients in my area that I service annually and when they are looking for alternative suppliers for certain services, its his card is given to them. A warm referral from a trusted associate is a large way towards picking up the business and then its up to you to make sure you deliver the service to go with it.

If you want any more information or assistance please let me know

Glad you found us Richard, and welcome to the 21st century!!

I'm afraid all this online stuff is a fact of life as we all get super social. With a long history of providing professional services, you should have no shortage of clients to ask for reviews and testiminonials, then get them on your site and every review site you can find.

Hope you find the place useful, and if you have any questions or get stuck in forum land, just shout.

Steve,

Thanks for that my son has just set me up a facebook page for my business and I am setting myself up on facebook.
When I input my email address I was surprised how many clients and friends it brought up.

Regards

Richard
