Default Hi I am new to your forum

Hi anyone? I have been working from home for the last year helping market online family businesses, Have become quite good at optimising websites. Looking to earn an income for myself now. I sold a CCTV business two years ago. Not been used to working on my own and need conversation with others. Thought joining a forum or two might be good way to stay in touch with the outside world.

Vidoe is my hobby which I would like to be my business. I used to own a video library many moons ago and provided a Wedding video service. Although I have video'ed a few recently I would like to produce business videos. Struggling to get interest in business video at present.

Hi Lanmark

I agree, joining forums is essential when you work from home - it can be disconcerting to have so little conversation with others, especially when you've been used to a more talkative environment!

It's usually a bit busier here but I'm sure some more people will be along soon.

Welcome Lanmark,

Business videos, is a competitive but I suspect growing market. Perhaps you should consider targeting a specific business sector/niche market?

Default Yell

Thanks for the welcome.

A bit of information your members may be interested in.

Yell.com have recently launched a 'video' 'beta' section on their website.

You can upload a business video free of charge. I have uploaded three family business videos.

Although I uploaded them three days ago they are not being found when I search for them, unlike when you upload to YouTube.

I have spoken to customer services at Yell and they could not answer my questions:

How long does it take for an uploaded video to register in the searches? Also how do you choose a catagory for a video?

I am awaiting a reply. Anyway it is worth uploading your business videos as it is free at present.

Interesting stuff, I have been approached numerous times to add video functionality to My Local Services from various suppilers, but I still can't honestly see any particular value add. Most people that advertise with us aren't really going to create a video advert, and are users really going to watch it? Do I care about Franks Butchers new shiny van and 30 seconds of his smiling face selling me sausages?

May be wrong, and have said in the past I can see the advantage for maybe video customer testimonials, but shall see how the wind blows with the big boys first.

As for indexing, I assume a Yell video will take as long to index as any other content. Dont forget YouTube is now owned by Google, and built into their search results. Be interesting to see what (if!!) answer Yell comes back with

Default Business Video

Hi Steve

I hear what you say about video but I believe everyone will eventually have a business video.

I have made a few videos for my families business and one video has had over 250,000 views in 18 months, which is a combination of views on youtube and the video embeded in the website. The video was not a 'funny' but an informative video about the products.

Also others can embed your video into their website for what ever reason which also advertises your business.

Video gives you another location where your business can be listed other than just your website. I think video works when you are either informing, teaching or suppling 'how to' knowledge.

i.e A plumber standing there telling you he is a plumber does not work. But a plumber that shows you a little trade secret or what to do in an emergency etc with his name on the video does work.
