Thought for the day: Health and safety

On Workers' Memorial Day, the Bishop of Liverpool highlighted the importance of health and safety to human life.

During the 'Thought for the Day' slot on BBC Radio 4's Today programme (28 April), Reverend James Jones, noted the 27,000 major injuries suffered in the workplace last year; the 29.3 million working days lost last year due to injury and ill health; and the 180 people tragically killed in their place of work last year.

Rev Jones then told the story of Andrew Pursey, the 21-year-old farmer who was crushed to death between two tractors in Hertfordshire. Andrew had scratched 'I love you' on his tractor as he lay dying.

Well that changed the mood

but very sobering statistics.

Just a little concerned about Andrews relationship with his Tractor...

Yes, It is a sad story - Employers are they thinking about the safety of their workers or is it all about money and profit?
