Default Bribery Act 2010

The Bribery Act 2010 aims to encourage businesses to adopt anti-bribery practices, by modernising the law on bribery.

It will be a criminal offence to give, promise or offer a bribe and to request, agree to receive or accept a bribe. The legislation increases the maximum penalty for bribery from seven to 10 years’ imprisonment.

The Act introduces a corporate offence of failure to prevent bribery by persons working on behalf of a business. A business can avoid conviction if it has adequate procedures in place to prevent bribery.

Bribery Act 2010 (c. 23)

My naivety showing here, but I thought it has been illegal to offer a bribe anyway!

This might be a worry for peeps gaining contracts abroad using intermediaries. Not a big worry for my line of work

What's wrong with a good old fashioned backhander, someone does you a favour, you give them a drink. Simple enough, but yet this could be seen as bribery too.

Should be more of it in the UK, caught speeding, give the old bill £20, happy days, need a new contract/tender, see who can help you out.

More madness in the Communist State of the UK, do as your told, no room for original thinkers here, watch Eastenders, Coro, buy a ford and settle in a barrat home lol! Feck that, not for me!

You don't need the Bribery act to be done for trying to bribe a Police Officer - it is called perverting the course of justice.
