Default Google Adwords

Hi All

I was considering placing my site on google adwords. Just wondered if anyone has had any expereince of this and how successful it was. Also, what people felt on the whole thing, do you think it will be worth it?

I know its minimum is around £30 per mth, which is pricey for me at the mo, but if it brings people in, maybe it wouldn't hurt.

Love to here peoples views

Kelly

To give you better advice we'd need to know the sector you're targeting.

As a general rule its worth spending a fair chunk on Adwords to calculate what your CPA (cost per acquisition) is and which keywords/campaigns convert into leads/new business best.

So put a link to your website so I can have a look

Hi Kelly, there's no minimum spend, and the idea is to generate conversions, not traffic. So if you start getting more conversions, you can then in theory increase your spend on adwords.

Adwords can be quite daunting if you've never seen it before, and your monthly budget is too low to outsource it, so start having a little play, just set a budget of a £1 a day and experiment.

Even better, google are always giving away free adwords vouchers to get you started.

Found this one for $100, assume it works in the UK, worth a try

Yeah there's a lot of £25 - £75 adwords vouchers floating around.

However a $1 budget wont get you far.

Its worth spending a solid £100 for a week to get your keywords around pos 1-3 to get some real market data.

But definitely start small...say you sell baloons, bid on terms like "birthday party supplies" "child's party"

Relatively un-competitive (means not many other people bid for them) so you could get good rankings for cheap monies!

Welcome to the forum

There isn't a minimum spend on Adwords.

However you £30 a month budget will not give you a true evaluation of whether this form of marketing will work for you are not. To work out a suitable budget to start with, what you need to do to see what the average cost per click will be for your chosen keywords. I can tell you that in business SOME sectors they are not that cheap.

However, do take the figure Google spits out at you with a slight pinch of salt. The figure given is a rough idea for a high first page listing. Now depending on the relevancy of your keyword and your adtext you can bring these costs down by a fair bit. But for some keywords within your industry sector you are still going to be looking at pounds rather than pence for the major keywords.

If you really want a rough guide to working out what you can afford to pay per click initially, look at your gross profit margin, take 30% of this and then 1.5% of this figure. This is a good indicator of the cost per click you can afford to start with.

As for vouchers, these are normally a direct promotion from Google themselves or from Google Adwords Partners who are allocated 20 vouchers/coupons per quarter to gain new business. But as Steve mentioned you won't get a Google Partner to take on your account due to the low spend.

Some Partners post these vouchers towards the end of their life expectancy if they have any left but they are like gold dust and go very very quickly. This is also a bit of a marketing ploy by them too
