I think it would be specific to the business/product -

Sometimes I think that people over complicate the situation by trying to find a unique company name when really the brand of products and services are maybe more important.

*In Derby there was a situation with the ^David Loyd^ centre - (David Loyd is a big name in racket sports) he opened the company in his own name (mistake) later he sold the company so therefore sold his own name along with it... He later opened another sports centre imagine the problem he had naming that! lol..

**My Grandfather use to say, "If it wags it's tail and barks then it probably is a dog"

I think products and services names are more important - I saw you have asked this question on twitter a few times and I knew you were from this forum so I came here (guessing you probably had asked the question here too) to answer the question.

Like a lot of people, we realised we had to call our company something and the Careers Partnership (UK) name evolved from desperation and circumstances ...

We wanted to call ourselves CPUK (nice and snappy) but that proved to be the name of the Carnivorous Plants (UK) company.

Then we opted for Careers Partnership (doesn't roll off the tongue so fast but at least it says what we were - a partnership of career management consultants). Problem! Careers Partnership was - we discovered - the company name of an association of public sector careers services near Manchester.

Companies House said it was OK to call ourselves Careers Partnership (UK), though, and with a HUGE sigh of relief we got on to our next major hurdle (deciding on the design of our letter heading, I kid you not!). Entrepreneurs we were not, we didn't think about customers and what they might want until we'd sorted out the thorny issue of what we could all agree was an acceptable colour scheme for the letter heading!

Though the naming of the company was such a muddle, we discovered later it hadn't been such a bad choice.

Careers Partnership (UK)'s good for SEO purposes and also means that we appear relatively high in straightfoward alphabetical listings (eg in the Career Advice section of the 'phone book, our name appears before that of the state-funded Connexions and Next Step).

Thumbs up How to come up with a name?

I hope I am doing this right... new to this forum stuff! I wanted to say that my business name came to me by just thinking of what my product was and how people would relate it to my type of business. I guess something catchy, but simple too. My business is flowers so I came up with The Blooming Corner...cause to me it represents flowers but it's simple too. There are a lot of ideas you could come up with for eggs and such. Don't be afraid to be creative and make it something people will remember and come back too! Good Luck to you!
Annette

Different name are use for businesses which are not related to business nature or dont represent business services but still have big name in business world like Apple... this name is not do with computer technology world but still all it business is very much related to computer technology and mobile technology... So name of business is our own idea... But branding of that business is important....

When my father first set up his direct mail business in Holborn back in 1952, I think he chose exactly the right name. The name, Holborn Direct Mail, let everyone know exactly what we do and exactly where we were.

He moved the business to SE1 in the early 70's, but kept the name.

That's my point though - I recognised ^your name^ from twitter and remembered ^your name^ from this forum - had it been Koozai etc I might not have made the connection or answered.

People sell - especially if the product is service based.
