Default Acer computers

Has anybody purchased one of their computers, they have the worst after care, been on the phone to a lady in India for 16 minutes to find out they cannot help me, need to go to another web site, log a question and call them back tomorrow?

What service, their computer only lasted 2 days before it developed a problem, my daughter purchased it online so she could collect it on her return from Belize for a short break in 2 weeks time.

Recommend that you stay away from this company, can anybody recommend a good Notebook?

That's a shame. I've had my acer for the past 18 months, never had a problem with it. It came with Vista and I upgraded to Windsows 7 without any hitch.

It looks quite nice sitting next to the Mac

Good man! Find it hard bouncing between the two? When I first got this one had the HP laptop next to me, and couldn't use it within two weeks, I use a lot of keyboard shortcuts though, and find them easier on the mac.

Acer are known as a budget brand, so cheap and cheerful, but make good business machines.

I'm biased, not a fan of Macs, but have always been a HP user. Not trendy or designed to impress, just functional machines. Get as much power and high spec as you can for your buck, minimum 3GB if going for windows.

make sure its got Win 7, if going windaz, if Vista, run away....... no matter how cheap it is.....

Have to agree, when I was a windows man, I only ever had HP (had a compaq once, same thing, lower spec).

I've had two laptops and they have both been Acers. The first (Win XP) lasted nearly four years of really quite rough treatment and heavy daily usage, then the hard drive gave up, but I've since replaced the hard drive and it's now my backup machine. However I used the breakdown as an excuse to upgrade and got this one (Vista). I have to say I hate Vista with a passion but the machine itself is fine and has ticked along for (tries to remember when it was purchased) maybe two years?

My other half has some sort of linux on an Asus EeePC which seems more or less indestructible, although he's still in mourning for his IBM ThinkPad. Personally I don't love the EeePC - great for portability but I can't touchtype on it and it's not much good for games either so for me it would be very much a supplemental machine.

Acer are value machines...generally good. They are nothing to jump up and down about. That doesn't mean machines are bad. The customer service on most of them are about the same...rubbish. You are often dealing with call centres.

Not doing too badly. The mac is for my mails, invoicing and CRM. The Acer is always on the large monitor for forums and web stuff.

The Acer machines seem to get a good write up, but at the end of day all products need good customer service and they do not have a good customer service?
