Well everything seems to change quite quickly in this frontier world of social networking, and I've only just found out the FBML (facebook markup language) is getting retired.
So if you are a newbie to Facebook, and wanting to create a presence for your business, where do you start? First thing is setting up an account. Do you already have a user profile? ![]() Here's a good help link for anyone wanting to set up a purely business account in Facebook. Business Accounts - Facebook Help Centre | Facebook If you have set up a personal and business account on Facebook, it would appear this now trips over their T&C's! "Maintaining multiple accounts, regardless of the purpose, is a violation of Facebook’s Terms of Use. If you already have a personal account, then we cannot allow you to create business accounts for any reason. You can manage all the Pages and Socials Ads that you create on your personal account." Ahem Whoops..... So if you have your profile, and you simply want to create a Facebook Page (aka fan page) its now got even easier with an idiot proof wizard ![]() Create a Page | Facebook Literally follow the steps. Now if you have a Facebook profile, full of "freinds" you don't actually know, like we all did in the early days. Then how about converting this profile into your business page, and all the people who were classed as "friends" will automatically be converted into "likes" for this page. Good little marketing trick eh? Again, if you want to go down this route, then follow the wizard ![]() https://www.facebook.com/pages/create.php?migrate From what I understand, the old rules still seem to apply, Facebook pages are better for businesses as they are visible to unregistered people, so therefore indexed and open to more exposure outside of Facebook. The other option is starting a Facebook Group (just follow the link). These are aimed at internal Facebook Marketing, as you invite lots of friends to join your group, giving more viral type marketing opportunities, but will get little exposure outside of FB. So both have their upsides. Maybe create both if you have the time! So just a basic overview of what can be quite a complex and time consuming activity, but this is aimed at the small business owner with minimal time and juggling lots of balls

Hmmm, Facebook blocked the big G a few weeks ago, another nail in the coffin of FB, they are worried about G+, FB can show likes on a website if you are logged in, Google can show the social effect whether you are logged in or not!
Will we see a Google world in a few years, maybe so, but the fact remains, Google is King, the rest are just wannabes. I would have dumped FB by now if I was not waiting for a G+ biz account! Google+: The Numbers Driving Its Growth [STATS] By the way, these stats are two weeks old, wow! Google rocks! |
