Post Facebook and Microsoft merge ever closer together...

Facebook has announced a partnership with Skype to add video chat to the social networking site.

The move is likely to be seen as a shot across the bow of Google, which recently launched a Facebook rival, Google+, also featuring video calling.

This is not the first time Facebook and Skype have teamed up - they already share some instant messaging tools.

Skype is in the process of being bought by Microsoft, which is a major shareholder in Facebook.

Steve, I think this is good...I think the whole search market needs a bit of a competition. Competition keeps people on their toes. Everyone knows facebook is slowly becoming a search engine. So a tie up with Microsoft makes sense...since MS are struggling to compete with Google on search.

Take it a step further, I wonder if Facebook can get the revenue to buy Bing out! It clearly can't compete with Google, but bolt it directly into Facebook and merge the two, and you have a powerful animal.

Never looked at it that way. However, I personally always thought Bing was and is pretty good. I realise that not everyone likes it. Bing and FB, now that could be something.

By the way Google Plus is not available to the general public yet. I don't know why they do that...similar story with Wave.
