Police crash a mans prized possession after stopping him drinking & driving - full story - BBC News - Hale police crash car seized from 'drink-driver'

Hmm not advocating for 1 second that i agree with drink driving but would he have crashed if they hadnt of stopped him? Perhaps no tthat night but statistics show probably at some point in the future he would have done but thats not my point.

How the hell can 2 officers lose control & crash through 2 gardens- were they trying out the performance of the car and if so what right do they have to do so? If they were Traffic Cops therefore trained to drive high performance cars how did it happen & if they were not Traffic officers why were they driving?

I watch a lot of these Police fly oin the wall docu soaps & most of the trime the car is towed away, why wasnt this the case this time.

All I know is presumably the taxpayer now has to pay for the car to be repaired all because (im assuming) 2 officers of the Law where showboating

So Mr Blairs books out, and he's dishing the dirt on poor old Mr Brown.

Must admit, certainly one for my reading list.

Favourite quote so far is his reference to Brown:
"...In the book, Mr Blair described his colleague as a "strange guy" who, while he had "enormous ability", had "no instinct at the human, gut level".

He added: "Political calculation, yes. Political feelings, no. Analytical intelligence, absolutely. Emotional intelligence, zero." :D
I wouldn't wish a hung parliment on anyone, although we do seem to be making better progress than we did under the final years of Labour, other than Cameron upsetting everyone ;)

Bit of a Friday afternoon rant/grumble here...

Customers ask for leased line quotes every so often... before going through the process of creating a full quote you tell them it will be ballpark £10-£15K per year depending on bandwidth and distance from the exchange... customer says fine do me a full quote... you do full quote and it comes out about £12K a year so you put in into a nice glossy format with bells and whistles and customer says... sorry too expensive!!!

I don't understand why the ballpark is OK but the final quote isn't !! Most annoying haven't spent all that time producing it.

Oh and before anyone shoots me down over price they were about 9Km from the exchange ;)

Rant over and relax... nearly weekend :)

"A study...

Great article form the beeb. Must admit, my politics swung from left to right, as I went from broke truck driver to well paid techie ;)

"A study is being used to support the theory many educated, middle-aged left-wingers are in fact conservatives who can't admit it. Is this true?

It is the cynic's perennial view of youthful idealism: that each student radical will turn sharply to the right once the pay cheques start coming in and the mortgage needs to be paid.

By virtue of this stereotype, we might imagine rabble-rousing undergraduate Rik from 1980s sitcom The Young Ones by now having transmogrified into Tory MP Alan B'stard - an easy enough exercise, given that both men were played by the same actor.

But an academic study has been seized on by centre-right commentators as evidence that this is more than just a cliche..."

BBC News - Are ageing lefties in denial?

Now this has to get a reply from Mary

After the latest tragic incident (BBC News - Major manhunt for Afghan who killed British soldiers (http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/10628025)) I wonder what...

After the latest tragic incident (BBC News - Major manhunt for Afghan who killed British soldiers) I wonder what our revised strategy is, or even if there is one.

Military chiefs said last year they could see UK forces in place for 10 years, politicians are hiding under the table, Obama the liberal has declared US troops will start withdrawing next year, and Afghan troops we are training continue to get inflitrated by the Taliban and turn on us.

Meanwhile the Taliban are relaxed in the knowledge that political pressure will eventually remove foreign troops, and the long tragic history of Afghanistan and any lessons from previous conflicts seems to have been forgotten.

How on earth can we get ourselves out of this mess, balanced with the needs of the Afghan population, preventing a civil war, letting our own brave forces die for a conflict few people understand. On top of this, we have the financial drain of an overseas expensive military campaign, at a time when cuts are being made to basic services back home.

No answers, only the same questions, and the assurance of similar tragic headlines in the days, weeks and months to come.

Whatever happens, I guess someone loses.

Oh to be a politician and carrying the weight of this responsibility.
