Zencart is great, just did a site kmwstyle.com
Magento is nice too but need semi-dedicated hosting which is expensive. Zencart can run on shared hosting

I have looked at two options closely, Magento and Joomla with the Virtuemart add on.
I have to say that overall, I now prefer Magento. It does take time to learn and in many ways I found Joomla easier but that is probably only because that's one of the first CMS that I learnt. We have recently swapped out online store (www.wicketts.co.uk) over from Joomla/Virtuemart to Magento and I am much happier with it now. If you don't know any CMS well, go for Magento.
